A couple of years ago, some friends took me to the famed weekly party, Low End Theory, to see one of the LA beat scene’s emerging artists, Astronautica. Although it was a while back, I still vividly remember her fantastic set, and it was this memory that spurred me to enlist her for our guest mix series. Since dropping her vibey Waikiki EP on Alpha Pup a few months ago, she’s been quiet on the release front, but she’s been staying busy with studio sessions in between tour dates. Now Astronautica delivers a smooth and eclectic mix of jams to help you get through the day in a positive way. If you’re around in LA this Friday, catch her live at The Do LaB event with Dimond Saints!

It doesn’t seem like long ago the veiled producer Zhu surfaced on the web (4 months ago to be exact) and had the net buzzing about his “Moves Like Ms. Jackson” remix, but a lot has been accomplished since then. With four more originals added to his roster, including his recent hit (named Essential New Tune by Pete Tong) titled, “ Faded.” Now, though, the time has come for others to take on the fruits of his labor as official remixes begin to take shape on SoundCloud. On the heels of ZHU‘s debut EP, ‘The Nightday,’ we have today some ocular treats in the form of monochrome flesh in dresses. Said EP has been storming iTune’s dance charts, topping off Australia with a few weeks at #1 and generally getting nods from everyone all around. Oh and also he of course directed the video as well.
Stream the pretty much flawless EP here, and give ZHU some love on iTunes if you feel it.
Been hyped on ZHU for ages. Been offered up my co-sign. Breakthrough Artist of 2014. The latest from him just solidifies his mastery of the elusive and fickle form of a deep groove in pop music’s sonic landscape.
“Once again, ZHU’s flawless vocals steal the show in the new single, but the House/Garage crossover groove lying underneath is also nothing short of spectacular. It’s artists like ZHU that are following just steps behind the Disclosure lads, manufacturing productions that live as perfectly on the dance floor as they do on mainstream radio.”
The mysterious artist know for the past few weeks only as “Z” is now known to be ZHU, and has released more deep pop fire in the form of “Faded.” After half a million SoundCloud plays, nods from just about every publication, and an on-air mention from none other than Pete Tong himself, ZHU is without a doubt the name of the moment for dance music. Beyond that, the rest is still a bit of a mystery, but I can say that there will be plenty more to come, and it’s all fantastic.
