Carrying on in our Dirt Artist Series, this week I’ve teamed up with virtual super producer, Matrixxman — the San Francisco-based studio whiz who can literally make everything from Italo Disco to Rap. Seriously, the dude emanates versatility. He initially came on my radar when he and Sinden teamed up with Mykki Blanco (a personal fav of mine) for “haze.boogie.life,” and since then I’ve been consistently impressed with anything and everything Matrixxman, including two new ones that came out this week which you can grab for free in this Dirt. Make sure to head over to his Soundcloud to check his whole catalog and get ready for a very eclectic Dirt selection from both of us below. Biggups to Matrixxman for the early 80s Disco jams in his picks. √+ Continue Reading
Kitsuné‘s friendly French duo, BeatauCue, have just released their most recent EP titled Lyrel this Monday, featuring three new originals that incorporate complex sounds while keeping a consistent, light-hearted danceability. Of the three new ones, I’d have to say that ‘Kickin Back’ is my personal favorite with it’s dirtybird-esque percussion, pitched-down vocal sample, and ongoing stabs, but you can decide for yourself as the guys have put together an excellent mix with all three tracks from the Lyrel EP as well as some goodies from Blawan, Yelle, Jim-E Stack, and more. EP is available on Kitsuné now and mix and tracklist are ready for download below.
BeatauCue‘s newest EP, Slow Down recently dropped on Kitsuné and has been making viral waves since. The EP features both the highly anticipated and catchy tune, Slow Down as well as remixes from The Japanese Popstars, Adrian Lux, GrandMarnier and DWNTWN. With each remix comes a different rendition of the original track, ranging from groovy to dark and catchy to energetic. At the moment I’m really digging The Japanese Popstars’ remix!
The French duo BeatauCue have been turning heads since their humble formation in a college dorm room. Consistently pumping out impressive originals and remixes, the two young producers have shown no signs of slowing down. With nothing but a bright future ahead of them, it seems like BeatauCue are destined for huge things, which is why I was so excited when they agreed to a quick interview for GDD!
There’s a remix competition being held by electro-pop tart Yelle and our boy Viceroy appears to have the winning formula. On paper, Yelle x Viceroy is already a winning combination. But one listen to Viceroy’s remix and you’ll realize that Yelle and Viceroy are the perfect match. French house + dirty bass…nice touch, Viceroy.
Here we are with Viceroy AKA Austen Afridi AKA sun-kissed magician and panty soaker extraordinaire. He took some time to sit down with us and discuss the creative process behind “Viceroy” and give away his smashing new EP “Sunburn” for free. Needless to say, it’s incredible, sure to teleport you to your own island paradise. Drink it in, and clean out those ears, because we’re about to fill you up!

This week we bring you another special edition of our weekly piece, “The Dirt” by the up and coming Canadian production duo, Botnek. You may remember them from a post GDD™ resident ///Bones put up a few weeks ago featuring their tracks “Dozer” and “Pop Music.” We are not the only ones to recently take notice of this fast-rising DJ duo, as their unreleased track “Owls” was featured by famed Radio 1 DJ Annie Mac on her mix show this past week, and Radio 1 DJ Kissy Sellout has championed their sound so much that he asked them to do an official remix of his newest track “Homesick.” If you like what you hear and want even more Botnek, make sure to pick up their first EP “Plonk” which was officially released just TODAY over on Beatport.
You can check out all their newest tracks + exclusive Debut/Download of a killer new track of theirs after the jump! Enjoy!
Today marks the arrival of the Spring equinox and the perfect seasonal cocktail is now being served. My new SpringGlo 2011 Mix is a refreshing concoction that is 1 part dreamy + 1 1/2 parts disco, garnished with synth. Sip it, pound it, shoot it, share it – whatever it takes to keep you funked up from Spring all the way thru Summer…
We got a taste of Yelle earlier this year on Crookers’ Tons of Friends album (The AC Slater remix of “Cooler Couleur” seems to still be keeping that song alive). And it’s been over a year since Yelle covered Robyn (and vice versa) on iTunes Foreign Exchange Series. Now Yelle is back with a brand new EP entitled “La Musique”. With a top notch producer (Siriusmo) and a stellar remix package, I’m sensing Yelle’s return is going to be a triumphant one.
Yelle is back and ready to funk you up. “La Musique” is out on Kitsuné October 4th. In the meantime, Kitsuné is giving away the Lorenz Rhode remix for freebs [!]
So how was everyone’s Friday last week? If any of you can say that you made it out of the Avalon without sweating through your shirt I just wouldn’t believe you. Last week recorded the largest capacity that any CONTROL or Avaland night has ever had, proving once again that there is no substitute for hard-hitting electronic music in the city of Los Angeles. We thank you all for making CONTROL what it is every week, and it really is all of you fans and enthusiasts that keep this shit going.
That said, we invite you once again this week to come dance to another heavily weighted lineup including Zodiac Cartel, Don Diablo, Hatiras, and more.
