It’s already the 3rd day of December, and after giving away some UKF merchandise on the 1st and some tickets to Riff Raff last night, it’s time for us to give everyone some new music, courtesy of DC power trio, Volta Bureau. “On Your Own” is the latest production from Will Eastman, Micah Vellian, and Outputmessage, in which the latter provides vocals for a cinematic sound complete with sweeping strings and an active bass kick throughout. Celebrate this Monday with a deeper side of Volta Bureau, and keep checking back all week for more free music, merch, tickets, gear, and more every day this month.
This Thursday, we’re bringing in a whole lineup of fresh talent to The Central in Santa Monica. Headlining the night will be a duo and a trio from right here in Los Angeles: Religion and Beach Life Kings. Each of these acts are rising names in Electro here in the city of angels, and we’re excited to get back to our roots this week by showcasing their talent to some new ears. Also on the bill will be Will Eastman, coming all the way from DC and representing 1/3 of Volta Bureau.
Volta Bureau, a new D.C.-based electronic group with Will Eastman, Outputmessage (Bernard Farley) and Micah Vellian (Miguel Lacsamana,) debut their first single, “Hope.” The song is an upbeat, piano-laden tune, set on a sparse, almost melancholic backdrop, while Outputmessage lends a subdued, soulful vocal performance. Conveying both the obsessive nature of Hope and what the future may bring, this bittersweet track is perfect for closing out the summer.
Formed in D.C. in 2010 and announced in May of this year, Volta Bureau’s hypnotic, cosmic take on house, techno and disco is already turning heads and gathering fans, including support from Danny Daze, Phantom’s Revenge, Cosmo Baker, and John Roman among others. With four original preview tracks and a remix for Ursula 1000 (featuring Fred Schneider of The B-52s) under their belt, Volta Bureau is well on their way to becoming one of D.C.’s premier electronic acts.
2010 saw Will Eastman’s debut single, “Feelin’” reverberate on dance floors around the world. His work caught the attention of people all over the world and even landed on Fatboy Slim’s “Weapons of Choice” Beatport Chart and Kissy Sell Out’s BBC Radio One playlist.
This past week Eastman unleashed his follow-up single. This time he collaborated with fellow Washington, DC producer Micah Vellian and Baltimore emcee TT The Artist. The result is “No Sleep,” a vocal workout over a synthed-out funk groove.
Heavyweights Treasure Fingers and Bird Peterson deliver monster, peak time remixes, just as you’ve come to expect from them, while Lazaro Casanova brings a sexy late-night slow-burner. Loopjack (the alias of Toronto’s John Roman) comes with some Chicago flavor and Germany’s Tagteam Terror pump things up with their high-energy mix. For the Dub mix Eastman and Vellian take the Original back to 1984 with some Axle Foley action.
