The pathway to stardom hasn’t always been paved for the Baghdad born Motez, but uprooting to Adelaide certainly accelerated his curiosities and access to the dance music culture. With early roots listening to Jean Michel Jarre and an affinity for the abstract and out of the ordinary, Motez shaped his musical belief system on a rejection of predictability. His signature brand of dance music is a proper representation of his talents as a producer intent on leaving his own unique mark on the house music community. Currently celebrating 10 years of living in Adelaide, we recently got the chance to wrack his brain on the current political landscape plaguing Sydney nightclubs, how his tour setup is evolving, and what keeps his creative juices flowing. Australian producer Danny Chien aka Wax Motif boasts a unique production style and fresh mixing skills that have kept this rising artist in high demand. His Mad Decent debut comes to us in the form of the much anticipated “Krush Groove,” the first single off of his brand new True Joy EP, dropping in August. The track breaks down into a war-cry of chords before building back up into an explosive synth lead and hard hitting low end, making for a colossal bass driven future house anthem. The forthcoming ‘True Joy EP’ also highlights Wax Motif’s perfected g-house sound (a movement he’s on the forefront of). Expect to hear Krush Groove roaring across the festival circuit this year, and look out for the rest of the True Joy EP in the coming weeks!
The Aussie to LA transplant Wax Motif has been on a warpath, leading the front lines of G-house in the states, fusing the spirit of hip hop into bass heavy house and garage. His latest project saw him teaming up with young gun Baytek in a flip of Rihanna’s recent hit “Bitch Better Have My Money”. Amidst the countless remixes that have surfaced for the single, Waxy finds a away to stand out from the rest and give it a nasty low end it deserved for the club. Swept up in the bass house craze, Wax Motif & Gladiator got in the studio to make a beefed up version of Kid Ink & Dej Loaf’s hit “Be Real”. The outcome is a low end driven monster, teasing Dej Loaf’s vocal along a growling bassline and jackin lead. Originally planned to be a bootleg, Kid Ink’s camp loved the version so much it got picked up as an official remix, scheduled to drop at the end of this month on RCA. In response to THUMP’s bash of G-House via the production quality of youtube viral star Sophia Grace, our aussie brethren Wax Motif has squashed all the animosity in the most epic way possible: taking the tweeny-bopper’s song and making a club ready weapon out of it. Wax Motif has been a solid rep of the G-house movement along with HARD chief Destructo, so we love that he took the Ellen Degeneres backed pop single and made it into a very playable DJ version… Listen below and grab it for FREE download!
To kick off 2015, Wax Motif gives up a new original called ‘Since I Left You.’ This one takes us into disco/electro overdrive with a big synth lead, a fat kick and the melodic aid of a classic Brandy vocal. Fans of Alex Metric, Oliver and Grum will be all over this one, and it comes with an interesting back story from the Wax-man himself:
“So this is a track I did almost over a year ago now. It was during a really difficult time for me as I was new in America and my ex and I had just split up. I was just crashing out on people couches or guestrooms, whoever would have me, while I tried to figure out if I was gonna even keep going with music. It was a Friday night and I really didn’t feel like going out and my friend who I was crashing with had a studio so I sparked one up and this is where ‘Since I Left You’ was born.”
The HARD family is at it again – Destructo and Wax Motif take Warren G’s 90s hip hop anthem Regulate and grind out a G-House driven heater fit for the club. The production duo keep the integrity of the highly credited original, while adding elements of techno techno, deep house and hip hop making it a whole new beast. Fans of Oliver, Duke Dumont, and Alex Metric will be all over this one…. listen below!
