The power duo, Du Tonc, made up of Matt Van Schie (of Van She fame) and Mighty Mouse, have announced their sophomore single, “Surging Memories,” today, following up their extolled debut “Darkness,” which my good friend aRod spoke about a few months ago. It’s a melodic, vocal masterpiece, driven by Van Schie’s soothing voice with live guitar, drums, and, of course, synthesizers. Du Tonc seems to be a match made in heaven, and we’re excited for their debut tour here in the US this summer. Listen below and find tour schedule after the jump. √+

Du Tonc = Mighty Mouse + Matt Van Schie (of Van She).  It’s a formula that any disco or indie lover can immediately get excited about.  Whether it’s Mighty Mouse giving you a lesson in disco diversity on one of his many remixes or Van She blowing your indie mind at a live show, this pairing of musical minds is a fantastic one.  Somewhat surprisingly, Du Tonc takes a slightly different approach on their first track together.  While their indie & disco influences can be heard on their new track “Darkness”,  it’s a poppier sound that Du Tonc seem to have embraced.  The result is a crooning & swooning slice of pop music brilliance.  Not too light, not too dark.  Not too heavy, not too laid back.  Chugging along at the perfect pace, “Darkness” is the kind of stunning pop music you can listen to over and over.  Well done, boys.

It’s time to set the mood for the upcoming months with the next installment of my bi-annual/seasonal mixtape series: aRod’s FallGaze 2012 Mix.  The mixtape is chock full of lustful indie grooves, steamy disco + deep, sleazy house.  Hot tracks from heavy hitters like Anna Lunoe, Disclosure and Van She along with some unreleased heaters from Benoit & Sergio, MANIK feat. Jeremy Glenn and Sure Thing…this mix should keep you warm and electrified from Fall all the way through Winter.

**Special thanks to photographer Joe Wehner for usage of his photo from “The Summer House” feature in treats! Magazine**.

2012 has been a triumphant return for Van She, whose new album, “Ideas of Happiness”, is all set to be released on July 6th.  The second release from the album, “Jamaica” is already one of Summer 2012′s biggest anthems.  And who better to amp up the Summer anthem vibes than Plastic Plates (featured HERE just last night).  To get folks excited for the album release, Modular are giving away the Plastic Plates remix of “Jamaica” for FREE!

Don’t half ass any listens on this track.  Felix Plastic Plates delivers the goods BIG TIME on this one with some innovative percussion and synth work.  To hear every glorious note, make sure this track gets played on nothing but prime sound systems.

Aussie quartet, Van She, announced their sophomore album, Idea Of Happiness, today with a summer release date set on Modular for July 10th, and I couldn’t be more excited about it. The band has come together for this album under the influence of good ol’ fashioned feel-goodery, and each track on the album is destined to evoke good vibes, sun-baked smiles, and an undeniable uplifting sense of audial delight. Shame we’ll have to wait until July for the full length, but the guys were kind enough to pass along the title track for us to hear this morning.
