I remember hearing about the Trouble & Bass crew years ago when I was at college in southern Virgina, just starting to get into electronic music and captivated by their exotic heavy bass and dark gotham aesthetic. Now, years later, I am so happy to call all of them my friends and to celebrate their monumental 7th anniversary.
Drop The Lime, Star Eyes and AC Slater have been straight hustlin’ the past 7 years and with so many amazing releases, the best fucking parties I’ve been to in Brooklyn and a Culture Clash win under their belt, it’s clear that this crew dominates crypts to clubs. To celebrate they’ll be hitting the west coast to perform this weekend and have shared this dope mix from AC Slater to get you ready to rave to the grave T&B style.
The LA sunshine must be doing AC Slater a world of good. The NYC Heavy Bass Champion has been residing on the West Coast for a nice stint and he’s been pumping out the tunes. Following up his Return Of The Underground EP that came out last month on T&B, he’s giving away another free track that tugs on the nostalgic warehouse heartstrings while also playing up the ever popular house chords. Grab the download below.
Bass lord AC Slater has a new EP coming out next Tuesday on his championed Trouble & Bass imprint, and he’s taken some pages out of his 2008/2009 handbook to put together 4 new originals that have a reminiscent AC Slater sound while adding a contemporary 2013 twist. Today, we’re happy to premiere one of these new tunes titled “Gunplay,” which has undeniable similarities to the wobbly Electro that giants like AC and Jack Beats used to pump out across the blogosphere back in the day. Perhaps our friend AC is predicting a renaissance with Return of the Underground, and we’re into it.
Massive support for the EP already in from Skrillex, Congorock, 12th Planet, Zinc, BBC Radio 1, Rinse FM…basically everyone. Get it. √+

Today Trouble & Bass brings us some prime listens from the Gotham underground. Tony Quattro, the newest addition to the Bass clan, channels some serious UK bass and US house to perfectly capture New York in sound. Aptly named, this has literally been my going-out anthem for the past several weeks! And the b-side “Forth & Seek” with Doctor Jeep and B. Ames is just the sexy, deep, funky accompaniment that makes this EP a must have!
BONUS – Download these hotttt bootlegs from Tony as well!
2013 is without a doubt Trouble & Bass’ year. The Brooklyn-based label and DJ collective has so many upcoming releases and is making so many big moves that I had to chat with Luca Venezia of Drop The Lime fame and founder of the dark creative collective to make sure I had everything straight. And after witnessing the face melting awesomeness at their BASS CLASH event with Mixpak a few weeks ago, I’ve gotta say that these dark Dons are leaders in their field and definitely ones to watch.
We’ve been big supporters of T&B for years now, and we love when the Brooklyn Bass collective brings their sounds over to the left coast. This Saturday, we’re teaming up with our friends at iheartcomix for a massive event at one of our favorite venues, The Central in Santa Monica, where Drop the Lime will be headlining the night with a massive underbill featuring T&B’s The Captain, Tamara Sky, BONES, and CC Sheffield. Coincidentally, Trouble & Bass just put out a new mix today, featuring 12 collaborations with artists around the world, “spanning the gamut between house, dubstep, club music and rap — often all within the same tune.”

Our pal AC Slater has a new 4-track EP titled Party Animals set for release on the 6th of next month on his own label, Party Like Us, and today, he’s given us a new mix to get the party started in the whole animal kingdom. As usual with the T&B champion, AC brings his signature blend of all things Bass, with plenty of Electro, Booty, and Trap throughout. Keep an ear out here for the new tracks from the forthcoming EP, and hop over to Beatport on the 6th to snag the release. TURN UP.
