Another weekend of hanging with friends in Los Angeles and talking about how f***ing hot it is as sweat drips ever so distastefully from your already over saturated brow line. Keep it cool on us this weekend, though, as we provide a new Too Hot For House Music: Summer Breeze edition, because nothing beats the slightest glimmer of some wind on your face as the sun reminds you who reigns supreme this weekend. There’s plenty of non house music vibes to go around with garage rock, surfer blues, UK indie, 70’s soul, and downtempo/RnB all properly represented in this weeks playlist. So dig in, give thanks, and stay breezy y’all.

Tha Funk Lordz were on a mission in 2013, dropping tons of new material and a Boiler Room set, preparing the masses for a funky 2014. To reiterate this point, a new single, “Come Alive,” featuring the indie dance sensation Toro Y Moi, has surfaced to forge their sound into the new year. Dave and Chaz (of Toro Y Moi) perform a good clean sexy duet and share some bars in this disco anthem as the effervescent Chromeo vibes…come alive! This new album, “White Girls,” that’s been teased with the release of the first couple singles, has a message heavily catered to those females out there grindin’ lookin’ to get on that global get down. Then again, who isn’t! Catch them touring the world this year alongside TOKiMONSTA and Oliver at any of their 22 stops with tickets going on sale this Friday. Continue Reading

While the commercial dance music sound seems to still be sweeping across the United States like a swarm of locusts, there is an unbelievable amount of tasteful House, Garage, and Bass coming out of the UK, more specifically London, at the moment. Duke Dumont, Bicep, George Fitzgerald, and Dusky should ring a few bells, and there’s a new duo that needs to be included on this list, and they go by the name of Toyboy & Robin. With a solid foot in the House realm, another foot in Bass, and an elbow in R&B, Toyboy & Robin have created a perfect equilibrium of their sound — catchy, grooving, and undeniably danceable. On that note, the gents have put together an impeccable mix for us today, featuring the aforementioned Londoners as well as Nicolas Jaar, Toro y Moi, Todd Edwards, and many more. One of the better mixes I’ve heard in a long time. Make sure to keep an ear out for Toyboy & Robin’s April release “Jaded” in here as well. Top tune. √+
Lauded Parisian imprint, Kitsuné, are back today with the second edition of Kitsuné America, featuring a compilation of 15 tracks from electrifying talent from the United States including Theophilus London, Toro y Moi, Gigamesh, Jim-E Stack, and many more. Incorporating a wide range of talent, Kitsuné “pushes yet again the boundaries of reason by gathering as ever a diverse and quirky selection of tracks which stick to no rules but their own.” In addition to this release, the Kitsuné family will be touring America in May, kicking off this week at Output in New York with Fred Falke and a DJ set from Foals. Full tour info after the jump. Pick up the compilation in the Kitsuné webstore and have a listen to the compilation mini-mix from Jerry Bouthier below.
We all know the beauty Toro Y Moi has constructed on his latest studio album “Anything In Return”, so now it’s time for a funky twist. Our LA based friends Richnuss have done just that. Richnuss is the playful project between cousins Peter Nussbaum, founder of Guns in the Sun Records, & Billy Scher of psych-rock legends, American Royalty. The infectious grooves of this song don’t deviate much from the original except for adding some funk and a dance kick. With the AR infusion expect to taste a little psyche-rock drizzled in. Its a beautiful mixture and take on an already beautiful song. Keep an eye on these cats in the future.
One of our Barcelona favorites, Shelby Grey, is back again with this sultry deep house remix of Toro y Moi‘s “Say That.” How this guy isn’t better known is beyond me, we’ve loved everything he has released and can’t wait to hear what he has in store next!
