Last month, we heard that The 2 Bears will be releasing their debut album on DFA records on the 30th of January, and I couldn’t be more thrilled. The highly anticipated release will feature some of my favorite tracks of last year including ‘Be Strong,’ ‘Bear Hug,’ and their newest single just released this week, ‘Work.’ The ‘Work’ EP is incredible. Not only is the original an embodiment of all that I love about The 2 Bears, but it also comes along with top-notch remixes from Toddla T, Oliver $, Supabeatz, and Franky Rizardo. Stream below and go grab the whole thang on iTunes now.

Raf Rundell and Joe Goddard AKA The 2 Bears are up there with my top 5 acts of 2011 so far. Their refreshing sound has been evident in all 4 of their EPs since March of 2010, and it seems as if they show no signs of letting up. With elements of Garage, Funk, Tech, and their own brand of Electronica, The 2 Bears consistently outdo themselves with brilliant production. Last month, the duo put out a promo mix for last weekend’s Bestival on the Isle of Wight, and it’s a good one. Complete with plenty of originals off of their newest EP, Bear Hug, as well as a few from the likes of LOL Boys, Toddla T, Jamie XX, and more, this hour+ long mix will definitely get you movin’. Can we please get them out to tour the US as soon as possible? Who’s with me?

UK bassheads Toddla T and Roska have recently collaborated on a new project called Toddska, and just released a two track EP that is serious, serious heat. Out on Toddla T’s new label Girls Music, the mashing of UK garage with that distinctive tribal swag is one of the more exciting sounds in a genre that is rapidly becoming redundant. Purchase the EP here.

Tamie Adaya and her latest venture, Crown Jewels, are throwing a cozy (read: crazy) little warehouse party at The Well tonight and tomorrow morning.  You may recall this venue if you attended the HARD afterparty on Halloween that Boys Noize ended up taking the reigns of.  Doorly, Toddla T, Them Jeans + Dan O of Dim Mak, Dillon Francis and Nadastrom’s Dave Nada tag teaming a moombahton set and our very own Matt Black closing things out.  Can’t mention the special guest (hint: UK MC, he’s a big deal) but I’m sure you’ll be able to figure more out after poking around the facebook page.  Be sure to RSVP.

All my best,

sneevs

After the success of his ‘I Remember’ remix last year, and also the inevitable carnage that Nero‘s trancey dubstep tunes strike up, it’s pretty unsurprising that Caspa‘s come back for a second summer dub anthem this time remixing Swedish House Mafia‘s One:
While you’re at it, scope this out too:
• Swedish House Mafia – One (Congorock remix) (link removed by request)
After blindly swearing never to listen to Congorock‘s Babylon again, I find myself listening to this gem, it sees the original slowed down and turned ever more Dutch.

Second up; citing their influences from both French and Chicago House scenes, Human Life have just dropped their ‘In It Together’ EP which is out on LIFEX. It’s already garnering the Angelenos a lot of attention, getting remixed by Kris Menace & Acid Girls, but the freshest picks for me come from two British acts:
Some essenttttial electro from Moda & Radio 1 residents
If you’re big into this French Filter track then stay tuned for Human Life’s collab with Alan Braxe which is set to drop later this year on Vulture

And lastly, Toddla T has been kicking up a lot of heat over the past few months since signing with Ninja Tune. Sky Surfin’ is a frantic journey of two-step electro and dancehall, making it ideal for the summer and impossible not to jam to:

If you dig this, then cruise through Beatport to pick it up in full 320
This is being given away for free by Ninja Tune. In commemoration of their twentieth anniversary, they’re giving away a track per week, visit NinjaTuneXX for more deets and if you’re London based be sure to pick up a pass for their celebration in October, the lineup is stacked.

I don’t usually post grime, but there’s one guy I think you should know about, as I think it’s only a matter of time before he becomes a household name as an MC crossing over into dance music. I’ve been listening to a lot of tracks from seventeen year old East-Londoner Maxsta; still unsigned, he was first bigged up during our interview earlier this year with Toddla T. Since then he’s released his debut Maxsta mixtape, as well as a bunch of collabs, my favorite of which was recent tune with Lady Chann ‘Dun Dem Season’, produced by Seiji.

While I’m on the subject, Lady Chann’s another one to look out for, she’s been tipped as UK’s Queen of Dancehall, and is set to release her next record later in the year via Toddla T’s own label: Girls Music. There’s a lot of dancehall stuff to get hyped about this year, particularly after the success of Major Lazer in 2009, it seems a bit like the floodgates have opened up. If you were diggin’ that as much as we were, pay particular attention to Ninja Tune, Mad Decent and Girls Music this year, we’ll be keeping you posted on our picks so you don’t miss a beat.

For those of you in London this Wednesday, get yourself down to the Summer Festival Warmup show that The Big Chill are putting on with Toddla T, El-B and Mixmaster Morris. It’s taking place 7.30pm-midnight on the roof terrace of The Big Chill House, 257-259 Pentonville Road in Kings Cross. Entry is free so arrive early to avoid missing out.

BONUS:
Decent remix from Joe Goddard of Hot Chip’s sideproject with Raf Daddy.

Just got my mits on debut album Running High from Montreal based producer Poirier. Signed to Ninja Tune, this guy’s pushing an awesome sound; his influences stem from dancehall soca-electro to tropical. The first disc on Running High features Poirier’s set of originals, including the massive ‘Wha-La-La-Leng’, a track featuring some well known samples which will make even the most idle Major Lazer fan piss themselves. The second, is a remix disc featuring reworks from names such as Baobinga, Wildlife! and Hugo Douster – it’s not a bonus disc I feel like turning into a coaster for my beer, so a big win on that front. Ninja Tune are definitely a label to watch out for in the coming months, having recently signed Toddla T for the release of his second record, set to drop later this year. Although they’ve been around for years, I’ve a feeling these guys are set to be the European rival to Mad Decent in 2010, with the amount of dancehall driven electro they’re pushing. Back to Poirier though, this week he’s playing on the West-Coast and you can catch him at one of the following shows:

Wednesday May 26: Low End Theory, The Airliner – Los Angeles, CA
Thursday May 27: Momo Lounge – Sacramento, CA
Friday May 28: Smash! Party, Forbes KTV – Las Vegas, NV
Saturday May 29: Suraya Dub, Club Six – San Francisco, CA
