Damian Lazarus‘ Crosstown Rebels will be celebrating its 100th release with a new EP from Tiga out on the 27th of this month, and in usual, odd Crosstown Rebels fashion, Damian has made a hilarious video to commemorate the milestone. You ever wonder what Damian looks like at 100? Check out the video.
After listening to Tiga‘s firing remix of the new FOOTPRINTZ single this morning, I did a bit of digging to see what the man from Montreal has been up to recently. Very pleasantly surprised, I learned that Tiga was coming out of a multi-year original solo production hiatus to make the 100th release for Damian Lazarus‘ Crosstown Rebels imprint. The EP is titled The Picture and will be released August 27th, with two originals as well as a remix from Crosstown’s Subb-An. The entire EP evokes a dark characteristic that agrees with the underground label’s reputation and matches it with Tech/Pop sensibilities from Tiga. With nearly 10 years under its belt, we congratulate Damian Lazarus and Crosstown Rebels on their 100th release, and commend Tiga on his much appreciated return to his solo project. √++Continue Reading
Visionquest not only makes up the supergroup of Seth Troxler, Lee Curtiss, Shaun Reeves, and Ryan Crosson, but it’s also a home to sounds that are supported by the foursome, like the new single from Canadian duo and VQ partypals, FOOTPRINTZ. “Dangers of the Mouth” is the first single from their forthcoming debut album, and Visionquest has started them off with a bang as they commission fellow Montrealean and Turbo mastermind, Tiga, for an uptempo rework that brings the dark, synthpop original off of its knees and into dancefloor territory. This great remix along with another rendition from Detroit’s Jimmy Edgar will be released exclusively on Beatport August 13th before its worldwide release on the 27th. √+Continue Reading
This week we welcome some youngbloods at VS at The Central in Santa Monica including the most junior member of the Dirtybird family, Justin Jay. We’ve been watching this guy for a bit now, and we’ve been so impressed by his original productions that we needed to bring him over to the West Side to showcase his unbelievable sound. In addition, we also have the meteorically rising Techno producer, Vakkuum, who is fresh off of a European tour, has releases on Tiga‘s Turbo Recordings, and has already gained support from Fake Blood, Brodi, Mumbai Science, and more. Come on out this week to hear the next generation of top talent.
Toronto-based duo, Gingy&Bordello, are definitely on board with the New Jack Techno movement, which is, of course, headed up by Turbo Recordings labelhead, Tiga. The New Jack Techno compilation was released mid-June on the Turbo imprint, and within the 10-track sampler was the hot new one from Gingy & Bordello titled, ‘Iron & Water,’ which will be seeing its release along with two additional originals this Monday, July 9th. The guys just did an interview with Playground Magazine and put together a jackin’ hour long mix to accompany it. Stream the EP and download the mix after the jump! Continue Reading
The other day Tiga made his return to his BBC 6music residency for the first time this year with a mix recorded unsuspectingly in Goa, India. Labeled as a ‘Trance’ special, Tiga characteristically takes the genre in his own direction for a mix unlike any you’ve heard before.
German House and Electro producer, TAI, just came out with a new mix last week for Dim Mak Records titled, At The Disco, but don’t let the name fool you. Yes, there are definitely some Disco jams peppered inside of the mix, but you better believe that TAI incorporated his signature heavy sound in there with new tracks from Tiga, Gesaffelstein, Brodinski, and of course, TAI himself.
