LA’s Ruff Hauser has been pushing the boundaries of bass music for over a decade now, and today he launches the debut release of his new Cats & Boots imprint with his Rotate Them Hips EP. His booty-tech monster was doing the rounds with DJs from the dirtybird and Anabatic camps before he assembled a top-shelf crew to remix the track that includes Mark Starr, Troy Kurtz, Roy Wilkins, Ghostea, and Perfect Driver. Having already been played on both BBC1 and Rinse FM prior to the release, there’s a fair bit of hype around the package, and we’re excited about the prospects of another rising music label for the West Coast. You can pick up the release now on Beatport.

One of Southern California’s finest producer/DJs, Mikey Lion, had early beginnings scratching hip-hop records at the age of 13, but since then, he’s moved on to dance music, cultivating his career through productions and DJ residencies at renowned parties such as Lovelife. Additionally, this San Diego-based artist is also a co-founder and resident of the underground festival, Desert Hearts, that is quickly building a strong community of likeminded House and Techno aficionados, while receiving critical acclaim from respected media outlets like Resident Advisor.
In celebration of the upcoming Desert Hearts festival (Tickets) being held in Apple Valley, CA from April 25-27th, Mikey Lion has delivered an excellent mix of his refined brand of “Tribal Gangster Tech-House” that’ll keep you coming back for more deep grooves. Enjoy the mix below, then head after the jump for Mikey’s upcoming tour dates (including Coachella this weekend), more info on Desert Hearts, and the tracklist for the mix.
Miami’s newcomer, Jordan Postrel, kicks off the GDD™ Guest Mix series in 2014 with an ace offering. Citing influences like Richie Hawtin, KiNK, Hot Since 82, and Claude VonStroke, he emerges out of underground territory that has helped shape his productions into tracks like his remix of The East Flatbush Project’s “Tried By 12,” among others. Postrel now flexes his DJ talent for an engaging 1-hour mix of house and tech-house that serves as an impressive addition to any mix archive.

Wankelmut is a subtle star. It’s not common for DJs who sell over 1.3 million copies for an official remix on Sony and garner 100 million plays on YouTube to be “behind the scenes” so to speak, but it appears that Berlin-based Wankelmut doesn’t need a Billboard cover or a headline festival slot to keep doing what he loves. Back in January, Wankelmut released “My Head Is A Jungle” featuring Emma Louise, which was championed by Pete Tong and Annie Mac vigorously on BBC Radio 1 in addition to strong DJ support around the world. 8 months later, the big tune will be seeing a re-release on Positiva, featuring the original accompanied by 6 mixes including remixes from MK, Friend Within, Gui Boratto, Solee, and Kasper Bjorke as well as an extended Vocal Mix from the original producer. The EP will be released on September 15th, but until then, stream the MK remix as well as the original below.
Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs released his first mix CD last week as the Get Lost VI compilation for Crosstown Rebels, featuring 2CDs, 32 tracks, and over 140 minutes of music. Debuting on this compilation is the new collaboration between Orlando (TEED) and Eats Everything titled “Lion, The Lion.” The new single, available only on Get Lost VI as of now, reaches into the Techno/Tech House world and is not immediately recognizable as something you’d usually hear from either of these UK producers. It’s gritty, spacey, and experimental; definitely an awesome synergy occurring here…
