Carrying on in our Dirt Artist Series, this week I’ve teamed up with virtual super producer, Matrixxman — the San Francisco-based studio whiz who can literally make everything from Italo Disco to Rap. Seriously, the dude emanates versatility. He initially came on my radar when he and Sinden teamed up with Mykki Blanco (a personal fav of mine) for “haze.boogie.life,” and since then I’ve been consistently impressed with anything and everything Matrixxman, including two new ones that came out this week which you can grab for free in this Dirt. Make sure to head over to his Soundcloud to check his whole catalog and get ready for a very eclectic Dirt selection from both of us below. Biggups to Matrixxman for the early 80s Disco jams in his picks. √+ Continue Reading
Mykki Blanco is far from your average MC, but damn he’s been putting out some fire tracks in the past 6 months. Teaming up with producers like Brenmar, Sinden, Flosstradamus, and Matrixxman, Mykki takes spacey bass beats and adds some incredible, unique raps on top. Mykki and Matrixxman have teamed up once again for the latest track, ‘Feeling Special,’ which definitely carries on from where their last collaboration, ‘Haze.Boogie.Life,’ left off. Mykki just kicked off a massive tour last night here in LA, so check the track below and get the full tour schedule after the jump. √+
Oy oy oy oy oy! Time for my first round of The Dirt and this time I am pairing up with my dear friend from down under, Andrew aka Ubbs from Stoney Roads. I’m sure you’re all aware of the Australian music blog so it’s truly our/my pleasure to have him on board to throw down some tracks for you lot. Feeling very, very UK with this one, be it with British producers or simply the UK vibe. Enjoy. Continue Reading
Sinden has just released his latest single, ‘Keep It 1000,’ this week on his own imprint, Grizzly, and yesterday we saw Fader give out the drum-heavy Techno remix from Night Slugs‘ L-Vis 1990. The first time I listened to it, a sudden sense of anxiety came over me — not positive whether it was a good or bad thing. The constant beat made we wonder if L-Vis called this one a “Construction Remix” because he had a renovation team breaking the walls down in the studio next to him. Personally, I’m a bigger fan of the Duke Dumont remix on this release, but this is still a good one to add to the library nonetheless. Download it below and pick up the 3-track EP on iTunes. We’ve teamed up with the good people of Collaborative Media once again this Saturday @ Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa. All the way from the UK, we bring you the bassline aficionado SINDEN – making a stop on his Grizzly tour. Supporting him will be our very own BONES, along with Mad Decent’s The KiD and Collab Media’s Fuss. This one is gonna get bonkers, so make sure to get your tickets now and get there early! We’ll be giving away tickets this week on our GDD facebook page, so be on the lookout!
For the 72nd installment of The Dirt, I’m teaming up with GDD’s newest member Tamara Sky, who also happens to be my sister in Overthrow. We’ve packed together some of our secret weapons to kick-start your summer indulgences. If you get really turned on by Tamara’s picks, you can catch her tonight at VERSUS. 10 tracks for download after the jump.
“G Like Me,” a collaboration between UK DJ/Producer Sinden and Huntsville duo G-Side, is a medium-dark, rolling lesson in Social Darwinism. It’s an eat or be eaten world, whether you like it or not. ST 2 Lettaz explains: I don’t wanna bust, but I will. Brenmar’s a pro at plucking vocal phrases and making them theses (see: “Let’s Pretend,” his excellent distillation of Chris Brown’s “Yo (Excuse Me Miss)”). Here he zones in on Kill or be killed, revving up the phrase until it serves him better, sounding more like Kill the beat. Derek Allen, Herve and Mele also toyed with the single. Listen to their takes here. G-Side’s newest album, iSLAND, is out this Friday via Slow Motion Soundz. Pre-order it from G-Side’s Bandcamp now and be the first to download album cut “Look Up.”
Crookers will be heading out on tour to the United States this September to coincide with their new album being released on Southern Fried, and just this week, they’ve released the remix package for their big Dr. Gonzo hit, ‘The Gonzo Anthem,’ equipped with remixes from Mumbai Science, Sinden, Will Bailey, and a whole heap of others. Preview all of them below and head over to Beatport to pick up the whole thing. In addition, Crookers will be headlining CONTROL at the Avalon in Hollywood on September 16th which also happens to be BONES’ birthday, so come on out for the Crookers’ Avalon debut and birthday festivities!
This Friday @ Avalon, we bring you another headliner trifecta – welcoming Sinden, Hatiras, and Alvin Risk to the decks. Supporting them will be local heroes Franki Chan and Kedd Cook. Strap on your space helmets cuz were gonna get on good one.
I feel silly for writing this, but please stay safe everyone. This has been a rough year for electronic music festivals worldwide and I hope the success of the HARD Summer Tour proves the naysayers wrong about the future of events like these.
