A couple of weeks ago I met up with Grenier at one of my favorite local spots Forage for a little food and friendly discussion. What I think both of us anticipated was a brief discussion about his upcoming projects, but what ended up happening was a close to hour long conversation about creativity and the state of music. I left feeling the opposite of disappointed… sure I was like 30 minutes late to my next thing but the topics we discussed was something I felt needed to be expressed. So instead of a carefully edited, introspective piece from me that took days to organize and edit down, below you’ll find an honest conversation between myself and a musician who’s very clearly spent a lot of time not only working with others but also thinking about how to work in new ways.
This all came about by the premiere of his stunning music video for “Intentions,” which came out on Symbols last year. You can watch the video below but I highly suggest clicking after the jump to read about Grenier’s multitude of new projects, including ones with Archie Pelago, Eprom & Hejfund, and The Glitch Mob. I’d love to see others’ opinions on the rest of this, perhaps open some insightful discussions.

It’s been a very, very good year for the skinny-white-boy producers of the world. At the top of the pile shines one in particular: RL Grime (who is currently on tour with a bunch of other skinny white dudes. Brilliant.) Henry Steinway won our artist of the year in our 2012 recap and, judging by the past seven months since then, is on a warpath to take the title once again at the end of 2013. His latest EP High Beams, out today on Fool’s Gold, was a long awaited package from the wunderkid and is a bonafide selection of club weapons at their most volatile.

Sometimes I like to think I have a sense of humor. Most of the time I end up just realizing that I have really boisterous opinions and too many platforms with which to express them, but that is neither here nor there.
One of the infinite pleasures of the industry is that the vast majority of DJs and producers are weirdos like me which oft goes fairly unnoticed in regular interviews. Cue my brilliant idea to enhance and embrace this weirdness & just get a bit silly with some of my favorite LOL-worthy artists. So stay tuned for “For the LOLs” to become a more regular thing, cuz if there’s one thing I know Gotta Dance Dirty loves as much as music it’s pure jokes. And whiskey. And stickers on butts. I digress.
My first LOL-erview is with the ever amazing Salva, I’ll leave you to just enjoy the rest after the jump. If you ever have a question you’d like to ask or an artist you’d love for me to chat with, hit @GottaDanceDirty or myself (@lauradambuleff) on Twitter. Stay weird.
2013 has only just begun and Salva is already having a hell of a year. After announcing his primetime slot on BBC Radio 1′s “In New DJs We Trust” (along with the wholly deserving Brodinski), running train on the blogs by dropping a collab with Brenmar “Let Me Bang” and an early preview of “Drop That B”, finishing a quick US tour, and laying down a rowdy set to a massive post-Grammy’s crowd last night at Drai’s, he’s dropping his first EP of the year Odd Furniture… and doing it early.
Made up of heavy ones, light ones, deep ones, and dirty ones – GDD big wigs Jonah Berry and BONES bring you the 103rd edition of the dirt, with (10) freebies both classic and fresh to add to your arsenal. Dig in kids….

Well what originally started as entirely a joke between young Three Wise & myself quickly escalated into one of the most popular posts on GottaDanceDirty…. and for that we’d like to thank SEXY DJs and the apparent thousands of people who want to know who they are. Any way, we’re back & although there’ll be slightly less pretty pictures for you to look at this week there’s definitely no shortage of sexy jams. — Laura.
