A new year is here and Tropicool and I are back with the very first dirt of 2014! Check out the chill vibes from Ryan Hemsworth, some acid disco from Flying Horse, and a great remix of Peaches by our buds The Golden Pony.  Tropicool has added some fancy treats including a re-work of Miley’s terrible voice yet amazing tongue, and a very deep, maybe even the deepest track our friend Mickey has ever produced after the jump!

After 4+ amazing years at CONTROL at Avalon in Hollywood working with an amazing team of people, the time has come for us to move on to a new project in Hollywood on Friday nights. Starting this week, we’ve teamed up with the folks at Lure, Dub Frequency, and MFG to be a part of Private Label Fridays where the focus will be on some of the best in House and Nu Disco talent, kicking off with one of our personal favorites here at GDD, Cyril Hahn.

Cyril Hahn will headline the night, supported by meteorically rising producers Ryan Hemsworth and Henry Krinkle.

Upcoming bookings include Nosaj Thing, Fred Falke, DJ Falcon, Yuksek, Gigamesh, a French Express Takeover, and many more. If you haven’t been before, we recommend you come join us at our new home on Friday nights.

Grab tickets for this Friday here.

The Remix Ryan Gosling AKA Canadian Montana AKA Rap Game Drake’s All White Tracksuits AKA The One Man Boy Band AKA Ryan Hemsworth (that was fun) just delivered a nice little package of 7 tracks tucked into the “Still Awake” EP available for download on his website.

Still Awake is almost exactly what you’d expect it to be: ephemeral beats heavily influenced by the sort of transient “head in the clouds” state of mind you find yourself in when you’ve just been awake far, far too long. For Ryan Hemsworth fans, it’s that perfectly cooked grilled cheese, satisfying and exactly what was needed to hold you over. Some may say it’s a bit bland but fuck those people because grilled cheeses are delicious and this EP is yummy too. The brilliant track names are basically the parmesan crust to the EP, as in DAMN, I thought this was just a grilled cheese now you had to go top it off with this next level shit DAMN.

I was listening to this as I started my morning and to be honest was going to call it a bit boring, but timing is everything and this is an EP for 4am hazes, for sitting on a beach cliff, trolling for Selena Gomez .gifs on Tumblr, I don’t know. It’s perfect little EP, topped ironically for me by the track “Perfectly” and highlighted by a very Rustie-sounding remix of the track by Taquwami.

Stream the tracks below and once you realize you do really want that grilled cheese go ahead and download it off his website: RYANHEMSWORTH.com

Ever since one of LA’s most fascinating labels Friends of Friends did a rambunctious takeover of Boiler Room, they’ve solidified a place in my heart as an enigmatic and refreshing label with unmatched originality. These guys are the weirdos that maybe you’re not supposed to understand, maybe you are, I don’t really know. But it’s cool… whether you “get it” or not… the point is they’re straight up making really cool music in a very new way and they’ve definitely made it work.

YEEEW! Dirt time & all I gotta say is I am very DTF with all of the songs so generously being put into the mix this week. Very much a theme again here, slowed UK vibes and really strongly percussion-based tracks in my picks, and a bit of everything from Jonah; ubiquitously groovy of course. Tons of free jams for everyone to enjoy, and we’re really stoked on all of the producers below & highly recommend checking more of their stuff out! Download all 11 tracks after the jump… Continue Reading
