Doesn’t get more LA than a fluid and bouncy remix of a Rihanna single from a yet-to-be-known producer. So here we are, ready to be blasted from car stereos with the windows down. Little known about Young Prince as of yet, other than he’s purposefully anonymous and residing somewhere in the depths of Los Angeles county. Rihanna’s single is booming – a stomping, in-your-face announcement rather fitting as a lead single for a new album, especially our darling bold RiRi. Somehow, Young Prince strips things to a shinier place, literally flooding the production with dripping synths. Normally something so esoteric isn’t necessarily assertive, yet Young Prince sonically delivers something that commands your ears and the room, stripping none of the booming energy from the original whilst shifting the mood and aesthetic to an entirely different place.
Intrigued to see what’s next from this mystery producer, I imagine it’s going to be good if you kick off with an official Rihanna remix….
It’s hard to imagine sexpot Rihanna sounding anymore desirable than she already does but her 2011 throwback track “Cockiness” gets sex-leveled up by 18-year old Leeds producer Jonas LR. With chopped up, smoothed out vocals over luscious UK garage/future bass beats, RiRi never sounded so hot.
Installment #2 of our friend Willy Joy‘s Free Willy Wednesdays comes in the form of a ready-for-the-club bootleg of Rihanna & Chris Brown‘s ‘Birthday Cake.’ I’m still not sure how Rihanna and Chris Brown made this track together after the jaw-dropping beatdown that dickhead Chris Brown put on the talented vocalist a few years back, but either way, Willy Joy threw some punches of his own in this remix; bringing the Dance/Pop original into a thumping downtempo wall-shaker. Download below and stay tuned for next week’s edition of Free Willy Wednesdays! Continue Reading

It’s always fun to see musicians from bands that I listened to in high school coming around to the realm of dance music production. Sonny from From First To Last was reborn as Dubstep wonderboy, Skrillex. And now, Fall Out Boy‘s Pete Wentz and Hidden In Plain View/Saves The Day‘s Spencer Peterson have recently teamed up as Black Cards, already putting together a handful of catchy remixes for the likes of Major Lazer, Rihanna, Cobra Starship, and more. We’ll be giving you the world premiere of their first mixtape (as seen in image above) tomorrow morning, but have a first look today at their unreleased Big Room Electro remix of Cobra Starship’s #1Nite.
Good morning! It’s time for your mid-week update featuring news on Rusko x Cypress Hill, Calvin Harris, PeaceTreaty, Miike Snow, Beatport Play, Sensation Chile ’12, and Nicolas Jaar. Please read on after the jump.
