It’s pretty impressive that London production duo, letthemusicplay, have kept their identities sealed for this long. Working with folks like UTRB, Todd Edwards, Alex Gopher, John Dahlback, RAC, Joe Goddard, and more, it’s quite obvious that whoever is behind this has some pull, so it’s admirable that the guys, or girls, have stuck to the original ethos of the project and have truly let the music play.
Following the release of the remix EP for “Our Town” today on Greco Roman, letthemusicplay will release their latest single “Bright” a week from today on Junkdog Records along with a wild remix from GDD™ favorites, Psychemagik, who have recently made their way into the deep end with a signing to Damian Lazarus’ Crosstown Rebels. While the title and lyrics might lead you to believe you’re in for a sunny tune, you may find yourself in the darkness with this one. Give it a listen below.
Man, Pompeya has been commissioning some absolutely spot-on remixes for the singles from their debut LP, Tropical. After Fred Falke knocked “90” out of the park and Jimmy Edgar took “Power” to a whole new level, the Russian quartet has roped in GDD™ favorites, Psychemagik, for a remix of “Slaver” that has me feelin’ some type of way. Fwonky (funky & wonky) basslines and lead synths steal the show, with breezy vocals providing a nice complement to the 7-minute groove. Very excited to hear the full Tropical Remix LP later this month. √+
Over the past two years, I’ve had the pleasure of attending The Do LaB‘s famed transformational festival known as Lightning in a Bottle, and each time it was truly an indescribable experience unlike any other. With new dates falling in the heat of Summer and an unfamiliar venue situated in a desert environment, this year’s festival underwent a significant amount of change in certain aspects, but its fundamental anatomy remained as artistic, conscious, purposeful, and spiritually vibrant as ever – exceeding my expectations and providing for yet another phenomenal weekend.
Through hosting an extensive lineup of some of the most in-demand musicians, DJs, speakers, yoga instructors, and artists, among many other performers and participants, Lightning in a Bottle has once again exemplified why it has gained such prestige as a world-class event that draws thousands from far and wide. After the jump, I’ll run through my thoughts on the new venue/atmosphere, my top 3 performances, late-night happenings, other highlights, and some photos to give you a better visual perspective of the festival.

On a Sunday night, in a beach town not so far away from you, I cracked open a Pacifico and began to ponder what I would do as the elusive evening drew closer and city lights began to flicker on. I decided to soul-search and ate a few silver-striped mushrooms out of an old embroidered Chinese box I had hidden beneath the dock. As I walked along the beach, the sand softly tickled my toes and the waves crashed in a perfect symphony. Just then, Poseidon’s froth had washed something hard up onto my foot. It was a glistening whiskey bottle; Jameson’s own to be exact. I opened it up, expecting a rich carmel liquid to engulf my soul and warm it from the inside out. However, out fell a flash drive where the words “Gooch-Tape #1″ were engraved. It was a sign; a sign that good things were coming. A sign that the warmth and sun-kissed poolside jams of summer would flow into the colorful world autumn had to offer. Warm your soul and paint your walls gold!
