Today I feel like bringing you some uplifting tracks to get you in the holiday spirit. And no, I’m not talking about your mom’s Mariah Carey’s Merry Christmas album (although if various producers wanted to get together and throw together a remix compilation of that record I wouldn’t be opposed. Mariah Carey – All I Want for Christmas Is You (Erol Alkan’s I’d Rather Get You for Hanukkah So I Can Have You Eight Times Rework) anyone?) Below I present to you a collection of tracks both old and new, upbeat and relaxed, but all sprinked with a bit of holiday cheer.
As stated above, what an uplifting track! Actually everything that Michael Cassette (actually 3 dudes) releases is absolute quality. The “90’s Piano Mix” should give you a clue as to what to expect but don’t get too comfy in that office chair. Put this tune on after a holiday dinner if the fam is nice and sauced and throw yourself a little holiday dance party.
No formal introductions necessary here I hope. You very well may have A-Trak’s original cut of this track complete with Robyn’s vocals, but this stripped down dub mix is what really does the trick for me. So sue me for not hopping on the darling of post-summer 2010’s bandwagon like everyone else. It’s the thought that counts, right?
A great extended version of an absolute classic from 1988 (best year ever by the way, Lakers/Dodgers winning rings AND my birth) Heard this on the radio the other day during the torrential downpour that has been haunting The City of Angels and was reminded of how much I love this track.
While we’re at it with the 1980’s bangerade might as well throw in my favorite New Order song. I could probably get away with saying this is a brand new track and most people wouldn’t think twice. You might actually recognize this from its little cameo in a movie about a certain time machine that doubles as a jacuzzi. Like a fine wine …
The usually boisterous Belgian’s take a restrained approach this time on their ‘Hypnotize U’ bootleg, deciding to just spike the eggnog a bit as opposed to drinking whiskey straight from the bottle at the dinner table like they normally would. Cheers.
I can’t help but smile during all eleven minutes and eleven seconds of this tune. If you’re familiar with the Knife and Fever Ray then get acquainted with Oni Ayhun, aka Karin’s brother Olof, the other half of the iconic and enigmatic electronica duo. Last year Coachella got the gift of Fever Ray, maybe this year we’ll get the Knife and some Oni Ayhun to boot?
Happy Chrismahanukwanzakah to everybody out there.
