LVIS-1990 is the co-founder of UK-based dance music label Night Slugs. The UK bass-ed music movement has recently gone stateside and expanded into warehouses across America. Our good friend Anibal caught up with James Connelly and learned about his transcontinental move and plans for the Night Slugs label. Catch the interview after the jump!
2013 is without a doubt Trouble & Bass’ year. The Brooklyn-based label and DJ collective has so many upcoming releases and is making so many big moves that I had to chat with Luca Venezia of Drop The Lime fame and founder of the dark creative collective to make sure I had everything straight. And after witnessing the face melting awesomeness at their BASS CLASH event with Mixpak a few weeks ago, I’ve gotta say that these dark Dons are leaders in their field and definitely ones to watch.

Sinden has just released his latest single, ‘Keep It 1000,’ this week on his own imprint, Grizzly, and yesterday we saw Fader give out the drum-heavy Techno remix from Night Slugs‘ L-Vis 1990. The first time I listened to it, a sudden sense of anxiety came over me — not positive whether it was a good or bad thing. The constant beat made we wonder if L-Vis called this one a “Construction Remix” because he had a renovation team breaking the walls down in the studio next to him. Personally, I’m a bigger fan of the Duke Dumont remix on this release, but this is still a good one to add to the library nonetheless. Download it below and pick up the 3-track EP on iTunes. Out today on Night Slugs, Girl Unit follows up 2010’s absolutely huge release in ‘Wut‘ with a six track EP titled ‘Club Rez‘ that you can now pick up on Beatport.
The first original EP of 2012 on the dirtybird imprint comes from the new side project from London’s Dave Spoon — under the devious moniker of Shadow Child. The self-titled EP consists of two original tracks, ‘String Thing’ and ‘Rustic Chip,’ which blend genre lines between Solid Groove and Drum N Bass and have both already received support and air time from some of dirtybird‘s finest, Claude VonStoke and Eats Everything. To celebrate yesterday’s release, Shadow Child put together a fantastic mix including a number of TUNES from dirtybird, Pets, and Night Slugs, as well as a handful of unreleased jams that I can’t wait to get my hands on. Stream the EP before you buy it on Beatport and download the mix after the jump. Continue Reading
With Orbital releasing their 8th studio album, Wonky, this April 2nd, it’s exciting to see the remixes, reworks, and rerubs that will be forthcoming. In that vein, Phil and Paul Hartnoll are graciously sharing Night Slugs boss L-Vis 1990‘s ‘Rewound Mix’ of the lead single, ‘New France.’ As always with L-Vis 1990, you’d be hard-pressed to force this track into one genre, but just have a listen. You’ll like it.
