It’s been 17 years since Josh Wink‘s original Minimal Tech hit, ‘Don’t Laugh,’ made its way into record stores around the globe in the mid 90s, and with all sub-genres of electronic music exploding at the moment, Josh found some time to team up with Saved Records boss, Nic Fanciulli, for a revamped remix ready for the 2012 crowds that was just released today on Fanciulli’s imprint. An ultimate classic dance music tune. Stream the 2012 remix + 1995 original after the jump and pick it up on Beatport now. Muahahaha.  Continue Reading

Nic and Mark Fanciulli‘s Saved Records is always a one-stop shop for good House tunes, and today we’ve been sent over two releases that are on-point as usual. The first EP comes from Andrea Oliva, the Basel-based producer known for his Tech House prowess as seen in previous releases on Hideout, Cadenza, and others. The Out Of Town EP is a two-track set of rollers that was just released on Beatport today, and a must grab if you’ve never heard any of his other work.

Andrea Oliva “Out Of Town” EP by savedrecords

The second gift we received from Saved today is a new single, ‘Sacrifice,’ from labelhead Mark Fanciulli. Again, it perfectly resembles the Saved sound and will make its debut the 27th of February. Head on after the jump to stream! Continue Reading

So we took last week off of The Dirt and we sincerely apologize for it, but what better way to come back this week than with a mouthwatering, user-submitted buttshot and a terrific 11-pack of tunes to get you ready for the weekend! As usual, we have a bit of everything in here, so either take our word for it and download everything via the zip files, or pick and choose which ones sound good to you. Happy Dirt day people.

JACKIN’ TECH HOUSE
Riva Starr, Major Lazer – Jump (The Martin Brothers Remix) √+ [Beatport]
Out last month on the Snatch! subsidiary label, Snatch! Special, this remix of Jump by Christian and Justin blends the familiar sounds of Snatch! and DirtyBird and is deservedly the first track on the compilation release.

VOCAL INDIE NU DISCO
Metronomy – Everything Goes My Way (Ewan Pearson Remix) √+ [Beatport]
I first heard this remix on Danny Daze‘s guest mix for Nic Fanciulli‘s Worldwide Sounds podcast. I love the original from Metronomy and Ewan Pearson sticks to the main elements while incorporating a great Nu Disco feel.

TECHNO + HOUSE
Lazy Ants & Rob Threezy – Chi to Rome (Mike Mago Remix) √+
Set for release next Monday the 19th, the Chi to Rome EP from Lazy Ants and Rob Threezy incorporates some of my favorite genres: Acid House, Chicago House, and Techno. This remix from BMKLTSCH Records head honcho, Mike Mago, delivers a bit of a Chicago House vibe while incorporating the repetition of a solid Techno tune.

EPIC DREAMWAVE
Cut Copy – Sun God (Andrew Weatherall Remix) √+
Cut Copy received a Grammy nod for Best Dance/Electronica Album a couple weeks ago for their fantastic Zonoscope LP, and in celebration they’ve released this nearly 9-minute epic remix from the legendary Brit, Andrew Weatherall. It’s a must have.

LUVSTEP
Traveler – Phantom (Original Mix) √+
I just posted on these guys earlier this week, but I felt like I needed to include this track in The Dirt this week because it’s been on such heavy rotation since I downloaded it on Monday. Keep a serious eye out for Traveler in 2012.

DISCO

Gigamesh - Burnin’

Gigamesh is heating up the Winter by bringing back the classic “Disco Inferno” with great taste and extra grooves. It’s just another gem to add to the quality Gigamesh catalog.

HEAVY ELECTRO

 Uppermost – Positive [Beatport]

Uppermost displays his refined production skills with a harder hitting, Justice type sound in “Positive,” a track of off his latest release, Action.

DRUM ‘N’ BASS

Sigma – Do You Love [Beatport]

This round of the Dirt calls for a tune from the always dependable Sigma. I find it necessary to have a little up-tempo energy and this easily gets the job done.

BASS FUSION

 Rustie – All Nite

I’m sure you could relate on how good it feels to come across a great artist and my latest discovery is Glasgow’s Rustie. With a unique and distinct style, he’s definitely one to look out for, especially with support from BBC’s Annie Mac.

DUBSTEP

Metric – Collect Call (Adventure Club Remix)

They’re known for their remixes, and it’s to no surprise that Adventure Club has put together a great arrangement of Metric’s “Collect Call.” Having the foundation of great vocals to work with facilitates the production process, but they certainly take it a step further.

DOWNTEMPO

 Emancipator – Elephant Survival

Emancipator is one of my favorite producers to chill to and with his laidback, flowing vibe, there’s not much else I could ask for. If you don’t already “like” his Facebook, I suggest you do so as he gave this track out for free today after reaching 30,000 fans!

On Saturday, Smirnoff’s hotly anticipated Sensation event rolled into London for an unparalleled night of mischief in white. The setup – which drew together 22 fountains, 13 laser systems, 100 different pyrotechnic effects and 16 6-meter wide jellyfish – was like nothing we’ve ever seen. Following on from last week’s chat with the man behind it all, creative director Duncan Stutterheim, one thing he said resonated with me: “the show is close to perfection”. I’ll be the first to admit that the statement sounded a little arrogant initially, but after experiencing Saturday, I find myself in agreement.

The show was beautifully executed, and no expense was spared as the London crowd piled into the O2 Arena to be treated to a spectacle that incorporated performance art, installations, new technologies, and music from some of the world’s finest DJs. The DJs performed from a rotating booth in the centre of the dance floor, while legions of clubbers hailed them like gods dressed head to toe in white. This was a clubbing experience like no other.

The most enjoyable set on the night came from Joris Voorn and Nic Fanciulli, who really set the standard with some awesome techno and house, before Fedde Le Grand and Martin Solveig took the party to the next level with some huge big-room anthems. All DJs were really well received, but the night was less about the music than it was about the experience and overall staging of the event which was a total sensory overload. We had a great time, and would like to thank the Smirnoff team for their awesome hospitality.

On a night out, it’s always nice to hear praise for the work we do here at Gotta Dance Dirty, and when that praise comes from a world renowned DJ it’s even more flattering and lets us know that we must be doing something right. Getting kudos for our blog from Martin Solveig was a surreal highlight on Saturday night when we caught up with him before his headline set. You can read our exclusive interview with him after the jump… Continue Reading

This weekend, Smirnoff are set to bring the legendary Sensation event to the UK for the very first time. Taking place on Saturday night at London’s sold out O2 Arena inside the Millenium Dome, Smirnoff presents Sensation: The Ocean of White. Resident Mr.White will be joined by a stacked lineup that includes Erick E, Sander van Doorn, Fedde Le Grand, Martin Solveig, Joris Voorn & Nic Fanciulli, while the production element promises to be spectacular and like no other.

We caught up with the man behind Sensation: Duncan Stutterheim for a rare interview, during which he puts to bed the question many of our Stateside readers are itching to hear an answer to: Will Sensation ever come to the US?
Get the inside scoop after the jump… Continue Reading
