On the last installment of Bacardi Beginnings, we saw Joe Goddard spreading his wisdom & mentoring the lovely + talented Jessie Ware. This time around it’s another fine musical pairing featuring one GDD’s all-time favorites, Mylo, and up and coming electro-popper Ronika.
It’s always a treat to see artists you love and respect giving insight to the process of producing music and even more rewarding when it involves the mentoring of new talent. Watch the video below to get a behind the scenes look at the making of Ronika & Mylo’s new single “Dance (The Modern Way)” and then have a listen to the brilliant finished product. “Dance (The Modern Way)” is deep + hypnotic. With slices of house, Italo & sexed-up, dreamy pop, “Dance (The Modern Way) has a little something for everyone.
If you know any of us personally, you know that Mylo is one of our all time favorites. The infectious groovy, funky, and always fresh material has some of the longest shelf-life I’ve ever experienced up there with the likes of Daft Punk & The Chemical Brothers. I’ve been itching to post this track for so long, as It’s been my favorite of the new year, but under strict order from Sir Mylo himself it was only to be used in my Gooch Tape #4, until NOW! His remix is part of the M83 – Reunion Remix Package, and this is quite the match made in heaven. Now lets hope Mylo and M83 have a “reunion” of their own and continue to make beats together!
As the weather inches closer to summer, disco dictator & good times engineer, Tropicool, has finely crafted yet another mixtape certain to tickle your sweetest loins from the inside out. The funk phenomenon and sun-kissed feel-good tunes aren’t going anywhere fast, because summer is always somewhere. Grab your frostiest mug and fill it up with the golden gooch. The Myrts are waiting.
In the lifting spirit of the festival season, our boys Dada Life have sent us their new Guerilla Fart #14 to give to you dirty dancers. This time, the crazy Swedes have taken the classic “Drop The Pressure” by Mylo and sent it straight through the grinds of the sausage fattener. Presto.DADA.
The Dirt #61 is brought to you by Tropicool + aRod. Expect a heavy dose of rooftop sunset vibes + beach haus grooves courtesy of Plastic Plates, Moon Boots, Gigamesh, Beni, Cosmic Kids and…Phil Collins (and many more!). It’s a dozen disco-filled donuts, all available for your downloading pleasure (via the GDD™ Facebook page)! Dig in…
Tropicool, radicool, sun-kissed nation vibration. Coconuts and mindtai’s. Heads in the clouds and your feet in the water. Babes in bikini’s, cool pool parties, and crackin’ freshies at the beach with your toes in the sand. Which brings me to my next point. Why don’t you sexy ladies out there wear the 80’s retro thong bikinis arching high above your thighs, that truely accentuate those dirty dancin’ stems of yours? Bring it back, please, we beg you.
Here’s the tenth installment of Waves ≠ Raves, and might actually be my favorite compilation of the bunch. So be rad, don’t tell dad, and do the jungle boogie.
“The waves ≠ raves consists of hand-picked gems that inspire us, tickling and tempting our creative juices. Some are old, some are new, but it is what we are listening to now. They are groovey, flowing, and sun-kissed just like that perfect wave. They are uplifting and guaranteed to put a smile on your face. They sound the best with a babe in one hand, a cold brewski in the other, and the sand beneath your feet. Stay Dreamy.”
Here are some tracks that I had been hoarding whilst I was waiting for GDD™ v3.0 to launch. Both Cut Copy and Chromeo will be playing at Coachella this year, which also makes it a perfect reason to post a remix of Death From Above 1979 (whose stealthy reunion is easily the most exciting news at Coachella this year).
As the end of the year nears I’ve started to frequently think about various “Best Of” possibilities. Then today I was reminded of another particular “Best Of,” perhaps the best album of the 00s, Mylo‘s Destroy Rock & Roll. There is just not a single note on that album that shouldn’t be there. The reason that beacon of perfection is on my mind is because today marks the release of this magical little diddy that the Scottish savant did for the fine Belgium trio Villa‘s new ‘Beats of Love’ remix EP.
The whole EP is fantastic, as is this bonus remix I’m throwing in that Mylo just did for Bryan Ferry’s ‘Shameless,’ which you can buy on Beatport. Mosey on over in this direction to find purchase links for the Villa EP from multiple sources. Keep in mind if you choose iTunes that the proceeds will probably end up as funding for Steve Jobs‘ mercenaries during WWIV, which will surely be fought between Apple and Google.
