It’s no surprise that we were big fans of Hot Chip’s latest album. That boy was a masterpiece. One of the danciest tracks from the record is “Need You Now,” a beautiful fusion of vocals and hauntingly sampled house music. Moonlight Matters just went and made a huge “piano warehouse” remix, and I can’t wait to play this one for all my friends. Stream this one pronto!
“When i first heard “Need You Now” i instantly felt a strong connection with the track, it’s one of those tracks that just grabs your attention and puts you in a distinctive and nostalgic mood,” says Sebastiaan Vandevoorde, better known as Moonlight Matters and one half of house duo Arches.
The original, the second release from Hot Chip’s most recent album Why Make Sense? is a brooding house tune with soulful vocals dripping in and out amidst a sparse, but engrossing musical atmosphere.
“Alex’s magical vocals tones never cease to amaze and that Sinnamon vocal sample is just the icing on the cake of what seems to be the perfect blend. “I already had a clear picture in mind of what I’d do to the track when the Hot Chip boys gave me the opportunity to remix this piece of gold,” says Sebastiaan. “I was a kid in a candy store. I wanted to keep the original mood of the track in tact yet make a very personal reinterpretation upping the energy and the diva factor.”
Power duo, Arches, came onto the scene strong last year with their powerful Whitney Houston remix, and the collaborative project from Seba (Moonlight Matters) and Jochen (Sound of Stereo) is set for blast off in 2014 with a signing to Columbia Records for their debut single, “There’s A Place,” which was just premiered to the world via the lovely Annie Mac on BBC Radio 1 this morning.
Taking inspiration from the earlier days of House music, Arches find a pleasant equilibrium between the classic sounds of dance music from their native Belgium along with a new age bounce that is unquestionably catchy. The big debut single will be accompanied by a B-side featuring the talents of vocalist Gustaph (of Hercules and Love Affair fame), making for one exciting introduction. Listen to “There’s A Place” below. √+
Fresh on the heels of their storming remix for The Magician’s ‘When The Night Is Over’ Arches are back again with an effortless revamp of 18-year old songstress Chlöe Howl‘s forthcoming single, ‘Paper Heart.’ Nothing unassuming about this one, you know you’re in for it when that first kick steadily beats in, meaty and driving. Not surprising given the pedigree of this supergroup.
No release details as of yet, but the original will be out December 9th, so have a listen below and ask Santa for it to surface sometime after that! And if you’re not up on Arches, get on up.
Arches is the new conglomerate project featuring members of Moonlight Matters, Sound of Stereo, and Hercules and Love Affair — combining analogue sounds with contemporary House influences. The supergroup’s first two original productions, “Higher” and “Hurting,” were debuted on The Magician’s famous Magic Tapes (Thirty-Three and Thirty-Four) last month, creating a buzz around the newly formed collaboration. Today, Arches have given us the premiere for their first mix, featuring one of the aforementioned originals in addition to new ones from Isaac Tichauer, Peter & The Magician, Cyril Hahn, and more. Keep an eye on these guys!
Moonlight Matters — one third of the disbanded trio, Villa — released his latest single ‘Come For Me’ featuring Gustaph on the 18th of this month via the widely-respected label, Kitsuné, out of Paris, France, and this morning our buddy Mighty Mouse shot over his remix that wasn’t included in the original EP release. It’s a feel-good, vocal jam — perfect to give you that extra push over the hump of this week. Download it below and check out the cool interview with Moonlight Matters about the EP here. Our friends over at Vitalic Noise have just released a mix showcasing the work of all the artists they represent which, to say the least, is a hell of a freshman class. These guys will be coming in super hot in the years to come, so keep an eye, and an ear open.
With the weekend creeping up on us and the sun shining bright here in beautiful Los Angeles, I found it perfectly fitting to post another dreamy, sun-kissed mixtape from GDD™ fav, Edwin Van Cleef. The man has yet to disappoint, and this May Mix proves no different as he includes some great tracks from the likes of Plastic Plates, SebastiAn, Peter & The Magician, and more. Put on those shades and head on outside this weekend, kiddos, and while you’re at it, throw this baby on…
