Ninety-nine.  We’re one Dirt away from that magical century mark.  But before we get there, The Dirt #99 is what’s happening NOW.  It’s the latest killer tracks all in one place: a Jesse Rose remix of Duke Dumont’s “The Giver” (with female vocals!), The Chromatics covering New Order, a MASSIVE Italo/French House remix of Estelle’s classic “American Boy”, a new GLOVES remix, a new Monarchy track, that Disclosure remix of Artful Dodger (the exclamation point on a stellar year for the Disclosure boys) and more.  Peep the tunes below + grab that hot (FREE) ten pack of tracks!  And don’t forget your 99 Red Balloons on the way out…

I was truly taken aback when I first heard Mosh‘s full-length album Monarchy.  I felt like I had time-traveled back to 2007, when French electro acts like Justice and SebastiAn ruled the roost.  I remember after Cross dropped a plethora of people began to experiment with DAWs, attempting to recreate those magical rock-inspired French grooves.  Now nearly five years later, Mosh has succeeded where most have failed.

Mosh’s album Monarchy is a true full-length album.  Mosh has not only managed to make Monarchy listenable in its entirety, but has also made it enjoyable from start to finish.  Monarchy encapsulates everything that made 2007 seem so special, throws it into a blender and serves it up cold.  The album really has it all: hip-hop inspired house beats, dark distorted bass lines, head-nodding grooves, and most importantly, power.

Mosh was also kind enough to put together an exceptional mix just for you.  Both his album and the mix are available for FREE download below.

At long last, Monarchy have officially released their debut album, “Around The Sun”.  In 2010, the album found its way onto the internets & gave the band a full head of steam heading into 2011.  Some silly music sites even went as far as to name the unreleased album as one of the top albums of the year…haha, whoops :] After an amazing Coachella performance and the addition of some new tracks, Monarchy are ready to launch with their aptly titled debut album & new single.

The next single off of the album is “Maybe I’m Crazy” (one of my personal favorite tracks by any band over the last 365 days).  The remix package ranges from the dreamy sounds of the original to spaced out progressive house to deep bleepy techno and includes remixes by AZARI & III (wow), diskJokke (downloadable for free here), Linus Loves, Michael Woods and Joe & Will Ask.  The package also includes a remix by DREAMTRAK, which first appeared on Monarchy’s Winter Mix back in December.   “Maybe I’m Crazy” is available exclusively on Beatport now!

“The waves ≠ raves consists of hand-picked gems that inspire us, tickling and tempting our creative juices. Some are old, some are new, but it is what we are listening to now. They are groovey, flowing, and sun-kissed just like that perfect wave. They are uplifting and guaranteed to put a smile on your face. They sound the best with a babe in one hand, a cold brewski in the other, and the sand beneath your feet. Stay Dreamy.”

Previous Waves ≠ Raves here

Tropicool, radicool, sun-kissed nation vibration. Coconuts and mindtai’s. Heads in the clouds and your feet in the water. Babes in bikini’s, cool pool parties, and crackin’ freshies at the beach with your toes in the sand. Which brings me to my next point. Why don’t you sexy ladies out there wear the 80′s retro thong bikinis arching high above your thighs, that truely accentuate those dirty dancin’ stems of yours?  Bring it back, please, we beg you.

Here’s the tenth installment of Waves ≠ Raves, and might actually be my favorite compilation of the bunch. So be rad, don’t tell dad, and do the jungle boogie.

International mystery duo Ra Black and Andrew Armstrong, better known as Monarchy, are getting ready to release their new single “I Won’t Let Go” (featuring singer Rokhsan) on Moda Music.  The single is out April 11th with remixes by Bag Raiders, Mustang and Sam TibaMonarchy’s sound contains hints of disco, new wave + French House while always maintaining a pop sensibility.  “I Won’t Let Go” is a shimmering, shiny piece of dance-pop that will certainly bring them (back) into the spotlight just in time for their eagerly anticipated Coachella performance.

With the mystery that surrounds Monarchy, I do have one theory that I’ve come up with:  if you factor in the band’s keen pop sensibilities and couple that with a band member who goes by the name Ra Black…could Ra Black really be Rebecca Black?  Nobody’s ever seen Monarchy’s faces and their true identities have yet to be revealed.  For a band that makes other-wordly, seductive dance-pop, maybe making some mindless, over-the-top teen power pop is the perfect outlet for them.  It’s the most unsuspecting alter ego one could ever imagine.  Strangely, it all seems to add up.

REBECCA BLACK IS THE NEW BLACK.

The band has also confirmed that dancer Take Some Crime will be joining them up on stage for Coachella. See kids…I guess being single & living in your parents’ basement DOES pay off:

Here’s some choice tunes from these distinguished artists and we hope to see y’all this weekend.

By concealing their identities (limiting bio info on band pages, not appearing in videos and conducting interviews as neon outlines via laptop), Monarchy have built a buzz for themselves in 2010 by allowing listeners to focus on their music and not the personality of the band. Some might say that this mysteriousness has become a large part of why there actually is so much buzz surrounding them. But beyond the gimmick (whether intentional or not), when all is said and done, the music still has to be good in order to live up to all the hoopla. And over the course of the last ten months, Monarchy has out-hoopla’d the hoopla by producing some monster jams.

Monarchy have released three stellar tracks since October 2009 (Gold in the Fire, The Phoenix Alive and most recently Love Get Out of My Way) and their highly anticipated self titled album is set for release on August 9th.
