The Dirt #147: Tropicool + aRod

Tropicool + aRod

Brooklyn-based Midnight Magic will be releasing their debut album, Walking The Midnight Streets, on their own label, Midnight Sun Sound, on November 13th, featuring older hits “Beam Me Up” and “Drop Me A Line” as well as new ones like “Same Way I Feel,” “Walking The Midnight Streets,” and “Diamonds,” which the band is giving away for free today. Influences of Disco are easily found in Midnight Magic, but dig deeper for hints of Soul, Funk, and vintage Electro basslines. Looking forward to the full album release!

Midnight Magic, a 9 (yes, nine!!) piece assemblage from New York City, just released a new tune on the first sampler selection from Brooklyn label Let’s Play House. A hazy, disco funk tune with Tiffany Roth’s croons, “Same Way I Feel” brings a new era spin on an old school vibe. After collaborations with the likes of Tommy Sunshine and an upcoming album in the works for release in November, Midnight Magic seems to be heading in cool directions that derive quirky influences from the old and the new to create something with, what XLR8R quotes “potential crossover appeal.”

You can download the track for free on the Soundcloud link below, or check the entire Let’s Play House Sampler 1 here.

Another Thursday and another 10-pack of free tunes to get your weekend started off in the right direction. This week, I’ve teamed up with Korbz to deliver a nice, lighthearted batch of songs perfect for the middle of summer. Nu Disco, House, and Tropical jams aplenty in this 82nd edition of The Dirt. The 4-piece Disco convergence known as Midnight Magic will be releasing their new EP, What The Eyes Can’t See, on Midnight Sounds on April 3rd, and to celebrate the upcoming 6-track project, the group has offered up a remix of their massive 2011 hit, ‘Drop Me A Line,’ from fellow Brooklyn groovers, Holy Ghost! It’s full of Nu Disco-ey goodness and instantly made me think of a Tropicool beachside set — perfect for the rapidly approaching summer here in Los Angeles. Download it for free and if you’re planning on being in New York on March 24th, catch Midnight Magic performing all of their goodies live at the Brooklyn Bowl.

It’s about time that NYC-based Holy Ghost! got to headline their own tour. After opening up for the likes of LCD Soundsystem, Cut Copy, and Chromeo as well as releasing their incredible debut album on DFA Records this year, the dynamic duo is well-deserving of the 20-date tour that they’ll be embarking on this October and November. In addition to the upcoming North American jaunt where they’ll be accompanied by Jessica 6, Midnight Magic, and Eli Escobar, Holy Ghost! has teamed up with Austrian producer Wolfram to put together the latest single, ‘Hold My Breath,’ which will be released as an EP on October 17th complete with remixes from Tiger & Woods, Cosmic Kids, and Falty DL. Feast your eyes on another great music video from director Ben Fries, and check tour dates below for a stop near you.
