Keys N Krates are at it yet again after releasing their remix of Miike Snow‘s “Devil’s Work” last week. Today, we have the pleasure of premiering their hot-off-the-press remix of Madeon‘s “Icarus” that they finished just days ago. With the catchy & uplifting first half and the satisfying, bass-heavy latter portion, it’s an electronic masterpiece that does not diminish their inner hip-hop sensibilities. Needless to say, Keys N Krates are quickly becoming a favorite of mine. Listen & download the fresh track above!
Here we are with Viceroy AKA Austen Afridi AKA sun-kissed magician and panty soaker extraordinaire. He took some time to sit down with us and discuss the creative process behind “Viceroy” and give away his smashing new EP “Sunburn” for free. Needless to say, it’s incredible, sure to teleport you to your own island paradise. Drink it in, and clean out those ears, because we’re about to fill you up!

I hope you are all having an excellent week! I’m looking forward to the steadily approaching weekend and most importantly, Burn Unit‘s main stage debut at CONTROL this Friday at the Avalon. I have a great GDD™ Morning Update for you all on this hump day, so catch the latest and greatest news after the jump…
“The waves ≠ raves consists of hand-picked gems that inspire us, tickling and tempting our creative juices. Some are old, some are new, but it is what we are listening to now. They are groovey, flowing, and sun-kissed just like that perfect wave. They are uplifting and guaranteed to put a smile on your face. They sound the best with a babe in one hand, a cold brewski in the other, and the sand beneath your feet. Stay Dreamy.”
Foreword from Viceroy:
While the music market continues to grow into an ‘over saturation’ of electronic blogs, the majority of them seem to only know how to post those same absolute jams that their competition managed to post in previous features. That alone is not enough to make a blog stand out in my mind. I have been and always will be a huge fan of Gotta Dance Dirty. Why? They not only have the most up to date jams from the big dogs, but they support up and coming artists too. How many well-established blogs do that? I can’t name many. Supporting my summery beats since I started in February, Gotta Dance Dirty has given me the honor of hand selecting the tracks for Waves ≠ Raves Mixtape Vol. 14. Looking for some sun-kissed disco to cap off your summer fun? Look no further.
By now, everyone knows the story of Madeon, the 17-year old French wizard who has received endless praise thus far in 2011. Nobody ever seems to have anything negative to say about him. That’s because he’s backed up all the talk by producing some of the best remixes of the year. And now, after he posted this video on his Facebook yesterday (and after it was re-posted by me & countless others in a matter of minutes), he’s backed up the “Next Great One” talk even more by flawlessly dropping 39 tracks in 3:30 and showing the world what the future of electronic dance music looks like.
The funny part is, this is just him toying around with what he calls a “little idea” for his live sets. You know…no big deal.
What a butt, right? Anyway, I’d like to thank you all for your feedback on the recent Dirts that we’ve been putting up in past weeks. We know you guys all love your free music, but we also want to make you all aware of great new tracks that big time artists are playing out that you may not have heard of before. Therefore, we will be keeping The Dirt to tracks available for download, zipped up tight for your bulky pleasure. In addition, we will be starting up a new Artist Chart-type feature where artists will throw us 10-15 tracks that they’re fond of. Not sure what to name it yet, so if you guys have any ideas feel free to comment below. We’d love to hear your input.
This week, Troy Kurtz and I decided to do a double-team Dirt for you guys. Each of us took a completely different take on these tunes, so don’t be surprised that his 6 have absolutely no relation to my 6. TK has used his recent trip to ATL as an inspiration, and I just felt like it was necessary to go with some of the bigger House tracks that have been in heavy rotation since last Monday. Let us know what you think! Tunes after the jump. Continue Reading
Today marks the arrival of the Spring equinox and the perfect seasonal cocktail is now being served. My new SpringGlo 2011 Mix is a refreshing concoction that is 1 part dreamy + 1 1/2 parts disco, garnished with synth. Sip it, pound it, shoot it, share it – whatever it takes to keep you funked up from Spring all the way thru Summer…
pic: itwasthelight Remix contests can be a lot like that movie AVP: Alien vs. Predator: whoever wins, we lose. Not only does the sheer quantity of entries make it difficult to find the quality (especially as a blogger), but by the time the winner is declared, most of us are burnt out on hearing the same stems used over and over again (extra credit: can you name me the winner of the Beatport-sponsored “Latin Fever” contest without looking?). Then you have 16-year-old Madeon from France, who Rob Swire crowned the victor of Pendulum’s “The Island” remix contest. Listen to Madeon’s unique style of feel-good call-and-response disco pop and I’m sure you’ll agree that this youngster is no one trick pony. Stream an original and remix of The Killers directly from our site and be sure to check out the rest of his work on soundcloud.
