It’s been a while, you could say, since it was last possible to catch Audion (Mathew Dear’s Techno Alter Ego) on tour. In that time you may have discovered your love for techno, as he discovered a love for changing the way you receive Techno live. With a career expansive album in the works titled, “Audion X,” Mathew Dear has put together an evening long odyssey to accompany the immersive audio visual content from his forthcoming album. SUBVERTICUL will feature a custom stage setup that was built by Heather Shaw (of Amon Tobin’s groundbreaking ISAM tour fame), whose team has created a labyrinth sculpture based off the Audion “A” that pulses, spins, and grows in response to Audion‘s ever shifting rhythms. We recently had the chance to speak with Dear about what to expect this Saturday at the El Rey, how it all came together, and how it is all still coming together. Continue Reading

Porchester Hall in London yielded three sold out shows for trance trio Above & Beyond where they performed acoustic versions of their original productions for sold out audiences, some set to be released on their upcoming project. Based off the London performance’s success, two special Los Angeles performances have been slated for Oct 13th and 14th. Those who follow A&B on facebook saw that the historic Greek Theater has been chosen as the home for this special performance. Along with the announcement of venue, a one minute preview of “Love Is Not Enough” was released to quell anticipations of what an acoustic set could bring.
Los Angeles is buzzing with fresh techno and house. Whether a label or producer is just getting their start here, or setting up shop from wherever else in the world they came from, it’s becoming a hotspot for this sound and what’s happening here is quickly gaining notoriety like cities such as Berlin, Detroit, and London have. Two names that are keeping the pot bubbling are LA’s very own Body High and their newest signee’s Newbody.
Bixel Boys have been keeping busy as of late, working on new music, dominating the SoCal club circuit, and as of today, launching a new mixtape series: Bixtape. With each episode centered around the influence and products of a particular city. Starting things off, of course, is the Boys’ hometown of Los Angeles. Full of LA-based artists like Justin Jay, Shlohmo, CBG and Kendrick Lamar, the mixtape is a dope little blend of every kind of sound. The boys have a real ear for pleasing sounds, so whatever droll activity you have to go through today (which if you’re in LA is probably traffic) make sure you plug this into your speakers. Looking forward to the future cities the duo will explore in the Bixtape series, which you can keep updated on by following their Soundcloud.

Los Angeles producer/DJ Steve Huerta is back again with an impressive two track EP that just came out on the petFood imprint. Drawing from where he left off after his collaboration with Prince Club, ‘Do Good To Me’ follows a similar suit with tight percussion, swirling pads, nifty vocal stabs and a punchy square bassline. The second track on the EP ‘Revenge’ has all the characteristics you’d want for a set-starter, roof-top pool party, or a sunrise serenade. You can pick up the EP on Beatport.
