• What So Not: “Dance Music Is Going To Move Back To A Live Concept”
There is not much I can say about Loco Dice without waxing poetic about the man. He is a fucking absolute legend and in complete honesty seeing him for the first time changed the way I appreciate, enjoy, evaluate, and interpret dance music. I’m not even kidding.
His impeccably-chosen selection of tracks for his most recent compilation “Loco Dice In The House” is out now on Defected, which has allowed for both the label and the artist to extend their reach past what individually may have tied them to a particular sound or style. Traversing across a wide array of music, from older productions, his own work, tracks via his label Desolat, brand new tunes, and influences from hip-hop to Detroit techno, Loco Dice continues to solidify his identity as a master storyteller. Every step in the process of curating and mixing a compilation is one Dice pulls off with immense accuracy: from the track selection, to the order, to the piecing and mixing and layering. Loco Dice is one of the best at compelling you to dance, and to never stop dancing.
In liu of the 2-Disc compilation, as well as his full-flexed weekly party USED+ABUSED in Ibiza, I sent over a few questions to Dice to answer. I’m incredibly happy he found the time to talk to us amidst his unrelenting tour, promo, and residency schedule, and without further ado here is out chat with one of GDD’s all time favorites (not to mention #8 on our Sexiest DJs list): Loco Dice.
If albums and compilations were movies, consider this the trailer to the summer blockbuster. And I’m not talking some corny A-lister-who’s-a-little-too-old-for-the-role blockbuster, I’m talking about the hit of the summer with an amazing director and cast. I’m talking Django Unchained in the form of a music compilation.
It’s sort of inevitable in art related realms that two different kinds of collectives or people will come together unexpectedly to conjure up something special. This is exactly what happened when Simon Dunmore, the man behind Defected, and Loco Dice got to talking last year. Without the original intent to make something together, Dunmore and Dice simply started discussing their utmost passion: music. And from that, Loco Dice In The House was born. A deft collection of house and techno tunes selected by Dice himself, LDITH presents something that goes beyond any pre-conceived notions of artist and label. It’s timeless, it’s perceptive, it’s explosive.
You can watch the trailer and small interview with Loco Dice above, and may I strongly, strongly suggest you pre-order the entire compilation on iTunes HERE or Amazon HERE. It’s out July 22.

It’s rather alarming how much being a musician amps up a gentleman’s (or lady’s) “sexiness” level, but there’s no denying it’s true. Musicians have been beacons of much affection for as long as music has existed, perhaps (this is my psych major talking here) because of our innate emotional connection to music, or maybe by some grace of god the handsome gene is connected to the music affinity gene. Who knows. Although I’m more particular to band dudes (drummers, specifically) there’s quite a few devilishly handsome gentlemen amongst the DJ/Producer world that are worthy of the ample female attention they get.
So here we are, as a preliminary chart to GDD’s “Best of 2012″…. Three Wise’s and my list of the “sexiest” artists amongst the electronic sphere. Not only are the below gentlemen considerably easy on the eyes, but their personalities, charisma, wit, and duh, MUSIC all add to culminate what I’d like to call “sexy”. Keep doing your thing, boys. Check out the list all the way to #1 after the jump (my votes in blue, Three Wise’s in red) and let us know where your most handsome DJs rank! -Laura. Continue Reading
