After becoming the most talked about party in Los Angeles, AC Slater‘s NIGHT BASS movement set out on a 12 dates in 12 days tour with bass house heavyweights Jack Beats, Hannah Wants, Kry Wolf and the man himself. The tour was a success in every city they invaded, but something special was planned for its LA date this past Friday, October 10th. AC Slater teamed up with HARD to bring together one massive event in the warehouse district of downtown Los Angeles, where the infamous Lot 613 was set to play home to the festivities. With the help of Gary Richards and the HARD team, NIGHT BASS quickly became the hype of the weekend and sold out before the night even started.

Room 1 featured the tour lineup, along with NIGHT BASS residents BONES & Petey Clicks. They got things started quickly, as the room filled up and packed out within the first hour. The much anticipated Hannah Wants came after with a huge set, followed by the chief AC Slater bringing it heavy and Jack Beats keeping the energy so alive it was literally spilling out of the room. Capping off the night was a secret set from Kry Wolf, who let his jackin vibes speak for themselves as the night went into the early morning.

Along with the tour lineup, AC brought in friends to take care of room 2: Anna Lunoe, Treasure Fingers, Amtrac, Light Year and Jen Lasher to the rescue. Room 2 was equally slammed, a wider room layout but just as crazy as it’s heavier neighbor. Only in LA can so many incredible artists happen to be in the same town on multiple tour schedules that culminate to one massive experience. The hype was so real that other big names in dance music couldn’t stay away. The likes of Boys Noize, Nadastrom, Kaskade, GTA, Destructo, Jauz, Brazzabelle, and even Valentino Khan‘s mustache we’re all in attendance.

The NIGHT BASS movement proved that it’s hear to stay, and its home is in Los Angeles. The tour dominated its 12 show routing across the US, and looks forward to continuing its monthly series here in LA along with new tours and festival stages in the works… be on the lookout for live set recordings from the whole night and more info on upcoming events!

It’s so great to see Mikey and Jordan working on tracks together again. Once the duo known as Light Year, Mikey and Jordan parted ways a while back, with Jordan carrying on the Light Year moniker as a solo project and Mikey creating the new Techno alias, Jensen Interceptor. Today, the guys have posted up a new video to their collaboration titled “A.D.S.R.” — a Techno infused jam featuring a repetitive “Attack, Decay, Sustain, Release” vocal. The video features a bottom-dwelling marine life feeding frenzy which seems to be a perfect visual accompaniment to the tune. Just a little bit creepy…

My good friend aRod and I have selected 10 tunes this week for your listening pleasure. We went pretty eclectic as per usual with any Dirt, so download them individually or download both zips for the whole enchilada. Happy Dirt day folks.

Hardened by years touring the world as half of pseudo-kitsch acid-electro force Light Year, and now gone solo, Jensen Interceptor is unleashing the raw, elastic-funk techno of his dreams upon the world.

With the split of Light Year and end to the Bang Gang era, Jensen Interceptor has dug his claws deep into the skin of techno, letting us know he will still prevail. Riding on the wings of respected labels Twin Turbo and Motorik, Jensen has released his newest EP INTERCEPTION – a colossal (4) track ride through club techno and onto the deeper side of things.

I generally don’t like to center a post around a minute and a half preview of a track but in this case, I just couldn’t pass this one up.  So if you’re down for a quick game of Just the Tip, I’ve got just the teaser for you.

In the six months since its release, “Moderation” by Light Year never really seemed to die down.  It’s been 2012’s “Your Everything”, a song you can drop in any techno, electro, deep house or disco set that is a guaranteed crowd pleaser.  The first round of “Moderation” remixes are all packaged up and ready to go.  The first remix by Gingy & Bordello was previewed on Light Year’s SoundCloud last week.  But it’s this second preview that’s got me all riled up.  As a longtime fan of Jori Hulkkonen, I couldn’t be more pleased that he’s a part of the “Moderation” remix package.  To this day, Jori Hulkkonen is still the gold medal winner of my all time favorite Essential Mix, circa 2002 (PLEASE LISTEN).

The first round of “Moderation” remixes are scheduled for release on August 17th courtesy of Motorik.  In the mean time,  here’s a little tickler of the fantastic new Jori Hulkkonen remix …

HARD Summer at the LA State Historic Park in Downtown Los Angeles is right around the corner, and with 2 days, 4 stages and one of the biggest, most diverse lineups HARD has ever put together, it’s safe to say that this year’s festival may be the best HARD production (on land) to date.

Set times have just been released this morning via the HARD Summer Website, so make sure to head over there to get your nights scheduled. Some tough acts are going head to head, but with the landscape of the festival grounds providing for easier movement about the festival, I think we’ll all be able to catch a bit of everything we need to.

“Youth in Trouble” is the first original track released by Australian electro duo The Presets since 2009, and we couldn’t be more ecstatic about it. It employs a harder Techno edge, allowing it to transcend its groovy Nu-Disco roots. “Youth in Trouble” is bizarre, dark, and delicious, all the while maintaining a casual feel. The music video accurately sums it up: an offbeat kaleidoscope that oscillates between disturbing and nonchalant. We look forward to hearing more from the Presets as their new album, Pacifica, is due out in September. Check out the original in the video above and stream the remix from our friends The Finger Prince and Light Year below. √+ Continue Reading

Another day and another Aussie coming through with great listening material here on GDD™. Yesterday it was Sleep D, but today, it’s the master based out of Sydney, Light Year. It is quite apparent that his show at Melbourne’s Survivor was one to remember, and I’m very happy someone was forward-thinking enough to make the decision of recording the set before it all went down. Have a listen to mix that’s filled to the brim with tasteful deep house and techno, and check out Survivor’s quick chat with Light Year before the show after the jump.
