The long-awaited Hypercolour release from Justin Martin and Eats Everything is finally right around the corner, with the digital release on Monday the 11th. Eats has said that this is the first of many collaboration EPs between the jolly duo, and based on the sound from this EP, we can’t wait. With many collaborations, it’s easy to tell who does most of the legwork, but with Feather Fight, the talent from both producers truly shines through individually as well as synergistically. Preview below and pick it up on Monday. √+
2013 is shaping up to be a prospering year for 808s and ‘booty-tech’ basslines. The forefront label leading the charge Dirtybird walks hand in hand with their own Worthy‘s label Anabatic, casting light on fresh talent for the movement. Just released on Anabatic, Venice Beach native Ruff Hauser made his debut with his heavily supported Paul Bunyan EP featuring 3 hypnotizing tracks that are gaining some huge traction on their own. With the full dirtybird crew in favor, Ruff Hauser is giving away his own version of Justin Martin‘s “Ruff Stuff”, a personal VIP ‘Re-Ruff’ that strengthens the best samples from the original into its own jackin’ product. Grab it below, and pick up his new Paul Bunyan EP out now!
“The last time I recorded a drum & bass set it was on a cassette tape over 10 years ago. In 2012 i was finally able to return to my original love, dive into my old vinyl, and play some jungle: b2b with Eats Everything at Bestival, b2b with Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs at Secret Garden Party, and as a guest of Bachelors of Science at their monthly at Monarch in SF. For those of you who were not able to catch one of these rare pilgrimages back to my roots, I have recorded a special set just for you featuring a handful of my all time favorite records. Happy new year and I hope you enjoy!” – justin martin
“Make sure you make me look like a complete wanker.” were Eats Everything’s (aka Daniel Pearce) parting words to me. Mind you, this is at a cracking warehouse party around 5AM, where he’s still bouncing around and having a (ahem) JOLLY GOOD TIME. That’s just the type of person the house producer from Bristol is. Brimming with cheeky English humor and infectious personality, it took all of half a second upon meeting him to realize this was going to be the easiest interview ever.
You can read the interview after the jump, and be sure to check out his new EP on dirtybird, and tune into his radio show on IHeartRadio every Thursday at 9PM EST.
With Halloween falling on a Wednesday this year, it only makes sense for festivities to begin this Friday, and who better to kick off your excessive Halloween week than the dirtybird crew! Head honcho Claude VonStroke will headline the night; accompanied by his right hand man, Justin Martin, and the youngster and LA local, Justin Jay, who has made an excellent Halloween mix that you can download for free below. In addition to providing the best tunes you’ll hear in LA, the Avalon has upped production for this event, bringing in zombies, ghouls, and ghosts fit for a Universal Studios scarefest
We’ll also be holding down the GDD™ room, which is now the room that extends out of the front lobby, where we’ll have sets from recent LA transplant Troy Kurtz, Wood Holly, Kevin Anderson, and Check & Mate.
Please email names to RSVP@gottadancedirty.com to be on our discount guestlist for the evening. All names must be submitted by 5:30PM on Friday.
YES. It’s here. The first volume of remixes for Justin Martin‘s unbelievable debut album, Ghettos & Gardens, has arrived. 6 tracks make up this first installment, with dirtybird family members Ardalan, French Fries, and Catz N Dogz trying their hand at 3 singles while Danny Daze, Dusky, and Bachelors of Science take the reins for another 3. With only 2+ months left in 2012, I can still safely say that Ghettos & Gardens is my pick for album of the year, and a whole new batch of remixes from this caliber of talent makes me so damned delighted. Pick up Volume 1 on Beatport October 3rd. √+
Round two of Science Sundays is already upon us and what better chemical to bring into the mix than the first one I put in my body this morning? Don’t get any of the wrong ideas guys… just caffeine. There are few things I delight in more (slash find absolutely necessary to have in my life every day) than a joyous cup of coffee, and that in large part is due to its caffeine content. Caffeine, for all you terminology nerds, is a xanthine alkaloid that acts as a acetylcholinesterase inhibitor. OK, so that basically means it’s a stimulant. It perks you up, helps keep you clear and focused, and if you’re anything like me after three cappuccinos, can make you jittery and energetic.
So there we have it. Below are a few songs I enjoy, ones that I find help me wake up in the morning, put my head in a nice and clear space, keep me tapping my feet in my desk chair, and ward off any yawns or feelings of exhaustion of the moment. So if you’re feeling a little groggy on Monday morning, or start slowing down at work in the afternoon, fill up your favorite mug and press play. I promise you’ll be right as rain in no time.
HARD Summer at the LA State Historic Park in Downtown Los Angeles is right around the corner, and with 2 days, 4 stages and one of the biggest, most diverse lineups HARD has ever put together, it’s safe to say that this year’s festival may be the best HARD production (on land) to date.
