“I want you to all smell a dubplate because they smell really good. You might never get to smell one ever again…”
Vivian Host, aka Star Eyes hands me a dusty disc, an old DnB record from Renegade Hardware. I smell it and have to admit, it smells perfect. Like old musty books but better, because it’s music. On the bed sits Jess Gentile, better known as Jubilee. We’re chillin’ in the infamous 181 spot in Brooklyn, Vivian’s current residence, while our lovely photographer, Kaitlin Parry of Shoot People, sets up for this Gotta Dance Dirty exclusive look into the lives and music of two of the best bass DJs and producers around.
2013 is without a doubt Trouble & Bass’ year. The Brooklyn-based label and DJ collective has so many upcoming releases and is making so many big moves that I had to chat with Luca Venezia of Drop The Lime fame and founder of the dark creative collective to make sure I had everything straight. And after witnessing the face melting awesomeness at their BASS CLASH event with Mixpak a few weeks ago, I’ve gotta say that these dark Dons are leaders in their field and definitely ones to watch.
We’re back to back this week with another double headliner Thursday at VERSUS. Joining us are the New York nightshifter JUBILEE, along with the groovy Italian duo Fare Soldi— making a stop on thier US tour. Supporting the sounds for the night will also be the coastal hopping HOHME, along with Shae B and Golden Bloggen’s Kool Ethan. This one is sure to cover the spectrum, so be ready to be blown away by a little bit of everything.
Big ups to our reader submitted GDD babe of the week!
