I stopped by a shoot in Los Angeles with my best bud Joakim, one half of Forever Kid, and threw a quick 10 questions his way.  We chatted everything from street art to Eggo® Waffles, Kangaroo Court to who’s cute.  They’ve also recut and rereleased the first remix they ever did, a classic by Whitney Houston, their way of looking back as they take the next big step.  I love Whitney Houston.

It’s been a minute since we last heard from our bud Joakim, but with this Heartbeats/Another Light release and the news that an album is coming we couldn’t be happier. The Tigersushi Label boss and DJ/Producer extraordinaire seems to have been keeping busy lately, moving to the Big Apple and setting up shop for a roll out of releases leading up to his album early next year. Check out the first two releases below and maybe catch him at a certain secret location in LA on Saturday…didn’t hear it from us!

This week’s Dirt comes straight to you from the child of summer, Tropicool, and myself, jonahberry. We’ve carefully blended together the perfect recipe for you this week by finding the funk, multiplying the new hotness, then finally dividing a spicy touch of special, we’re left with a tasty 10-course meal.  We hope you enjoy listening as much as we enjoyed curating. There’s a touch of everything in here, so keep your mind, and ears, open. You might just find something you never knew you’d like… Continue Reading

“The waves ≠ raves consists of hand-picked gems that inspire us, tickling and tempting our creative juices. Some are old, some are new, but it is what we are listening to now. They are groovey, flowing, and sun-kissed just like that perfect wave. They are uplifting and guaranteed to put a smile on your face. They sound the best with a babe in one hand, a cold brewski in the other, and the sand beneath your feet. Stay Dreamy.”

On a Sunday night, in a beach town not so far away from you, I cracked open a Pacifico and began to ponder what I would do as the elusive evening drew closer and city lights began to flicker on. I decided to soul-search and ate a few silver-striped mushrooms out of an old embroidered Chinese box I had hidden beneath the dock. As I walked along the beach, the sand softly tickled my toes and the waves crashed in a perfect symphony. Just then, Poseidon’s froth had washed something hard up onto my foot. It was a glistening whiskey bottle; Jameson’s own to be exact. I opened it up, expecting a rich carmel liquid to engulf my soul and warm it from the inside out. However, out fell a flash drive where the words “Gooch-Tape #1″ were engraved. It was a sign; a sign that good things were coming. A sign that the warmth and sun-kissed poolside jams of summer would flow into the colorful world autumn had to offer. Warm your soul and paint your walls gold!

This wave may be the most perfect to date. Refreshing, flowing, and made of your favorite lager. Get loose, grab your honey bunny, and take tomorrow off.

Mitzi are a well-oiled machine from Brisbane, Australia who make music that is whiskey to my ears.  So smooth + velvety.  Mitzi are a fearsome foursome who work very well together as bandmates.  The smooth vocals & semi-frantic syncopated guitar coupled with live keys, analog synths and groovy basslines give the band a laid back but very dancefloor friendly disco punk sound.

In December of 2010, Mitzi released their “All I Heard” EP which also spawned two remix EPs.  Mitzi has also taken the time to remix Cassian & Two Door Cinema Club.  And so far everything they’ve done has turned up aces.  Can’t wait to see what the future holds for these guys.  Preview The Revenge remix of “Morning Light” here and be sure to grab “Mitzi – Vinyl Versions”, out June 20th on Future Classic.
