splash house day one-5

Last weekend, the GDD™ crew took off to Palm Springs for the 2nd annual poolside festival, Splash House, where the grooviest of DJs converged for a weekend of sun-soaked tunes spanning across three venues — The Saguaro (where we spent most of our time), Hacienda, and the Hard Rock Hotel. With hundreds of Angelenos making the short drive on the 10E, Splash House proved that a summertime pool festival is not just a good idea, it’s a GREAT one. Big ups to LED and Goldenvoice for putting on a successful weekender. There’s no doubt that GDD will be back for every Splash House in the future.

The past few months have been an absolute flurry of activity for the young Canadian remix prodigy that is Cyril Hahn. With undeniably infectious takes on tracks from female crooners like Destiny’s Child and Mariah Carey, his SoundCloud has hit massive play counts. It’s slowed R&B with pop sensibility… a danceable, oxytocin-laced fusion of groovy and catchy with touches of garage and UK vibes. Pretty much what every person with reasonable taste in music wants to put on their sex playlist. Who could be mad at that?

After his multitude of successes with his releases and mixes, he hit Europe for tour, and it’s finally that time for him to hit the states. Naturally it wouldn’t be a trip to the US without a stop in LA, which I am more than thrilled about. Having officially joined the AM Only roster, a whole North American tour in the works, and multitudes of Coachella friends in town, Cyril Hahn has much to be excited about for his show tonight at the Belasco. I can’t tell you who the special guests (YES, MORE THAN ONE!) are, but I can tell you it’s being presented by Goldenvoice (cough cough)… and you have two clues in the previous sentence. Oh yeah, I can also tell you that apart from Cyril Hahn guaranteed to provide some sexy jams this evening, the special guests are FUCKING AWESOME and you basically are a big dummy if you miss out.

Purchase tickets below, oh and if you’re on the fence about it (shame on you), go ahead and listen to the GDD Guest Mix he did to get you in the mood.

It’s hard to believe that Coachella is now hours upon us. The annual desert frolic is one of our favorite festivals in the world, and lucky for us it’s right in our backyard. We have to commend Goldenvoice in a big way for this year’s bookings, as it seems like they’ve generally strayed from the widely acceptable cheesy bookings (like last year) and gone a bit more toward the edge. We at GDD™ have collectively come up with our top 5 picks per day, along with 3 honorable mentions as it was nearly impossible to only choose 5 acts. Check our must see list below, and we’ll see you out in the desert this weekend! Continue Reading

As part of his 5 city US tour, Vitalic will be stopping by the El Rey Theatre on March 25th for a very special DJ Set. The French producer brings a unique emotional component to electronic music, which other artists are unable to reproduce. Flashmob, his most recent release in 2009, represents his interpretation of disco, as well as a transition away from early sounds. Vitalic’s music is full of robotic synthesizers, as he prefers to use a vocoder on most tracks, to create a sound which “achieve[s] something strange, between reality and synthetic.” Don’t miss out on one of the most influential artists in electronic music today.

Modestep will be invading the Music Box on December 10th, bringing with them all of the head-to-floor wobbles your eardrums can handle. Rising out of the London dubstep scene, Modestep is truly revolutionary to the nature of the genre. They are a four-piece band with a couple multi-instrumentalists, including Josh Modestep (vocals/production/keys), Tony Modestep (turntables/production/guitar), Nick Modestep  (guitar), & Matt Modestep (drums/percussion). While performing live, Modestep comes together in seamless fusion, and they transform venues into what can only be described as an unconventional rock show with the sounds and energy of dubstep. See what we mean with the video after the jump!

In addition to their deep catalog, Plaid has remixed artists such as Goldfrapp, Bjork, and Red Snapper. In 2006, Plaid released Greedy Baby, an audio/visual cd/dvd with filmmaker Bob Jaroc. Check out the video below and be sure to enter our giveaway!
