A big day in the books for the young Mexicali duo Thee Cool Cats – Today marked the much anticipated release of their ‘Play It Again’ EP on NYC based Nurvous Records, along with their Beatport contest winning remix for Blond:ish & Climbers on Get Physical Music. With their initial exposure coming from the world traveling support of Amine Edge & DANCE, the single “Play It Again” was almost snatched up by Amine’s new label CUFF, only to be beat to the chase by Nurvous. The other tracks on the EP “Still Gone” and “Will Never Do” keep things on a more soulful level, executing solid B-sides in the deep/disco category. Check them all out below, and support our boys on Beatport!
Tonight, some of our favorite women in dance music will be taking the reins at Exchange in Downtown Los Angeles — Magda and Blond:ish. We were able to have a quick chat with the Montreal-born, London-based duo responsible for releases on some of our favorite imprints (Kompakt, Get Physical, Defected) ahead of their set tonight where we touched on their love of 70s psychedelia, how they link up with labels, their Cherry residency, and more. Read on and give a listen to their remix of Maya Jane Coles’ “Everything” out this week…
The Leeds grown wunderkind Hot Since 82 just made our Monday. Riding celebrated support from releases on Get Physical and Moda Black, the rising UK producer debuted his follow up “Hot Jams Vol. 2″ on Noir Music, released today Beatport. The new EP features (4) stunning originals that take house grooves to the deep end and back again. Listen below, and download the 2-hour FREE Hotcast!
Here’s some serious fire from Leeds-based producer, Hot Since 82. Since listening to his Hurt You EP that I got amongst a stack of promo CDs in Miami last March, I can’t seem to get enough of this dude. Forty Shorty is HS82’s latest project — a deep, bassline-filled 2-track EP out on the famed Get Physical imprint this week. While the title track definitely gets a firm pat on the back, it’s the second track “Like You” that really is the business for me. A rolling bassline rounds out the track paired with swirling vocal repetition, perfect for late-night, drughaus hours. Pick it up. √+
Good morning! We apologize for the lack of the usual update on Monday that was due to our server being down. Today’s news includes a wealth of information on Avicii, I Love This City Festival (SF/SD), Lightning in a Bottle, The Music Box, Keys N Krates, Justin Martin, Mary Anne Hobbs, Sympho Nympho, SBTRKT, Body Language Vol. 11, & Ibiza 123 Rocktronic. Please read on after the jump.
Smash TV‘s EP, Steroids to Heaven was nothing short of phenomenal and it comes as no surprise that the remixes are brilliant as well. Pol_On, Kiki, and Hector all rework Steroids to Heaven, with each artist adding their own unique stylistic approach to the already incredible original EP. I’m particularly digging Smash TV’s rework of Made for Eachother.
Two of my favorites have come together once again to create yet another masterpiece. When these Berliners converge in the studio to collaborate, it seems as if they can’t help but make magic happen. Founders of the famed Get Physical imprint, Booka Shade and M.A.N.D.Y haven’t worked together on a collaborative single since they released ‘Donut’ last year, but the guys have somehow found time amidst their global touring schedules to put ‘Home’ together. In honor of this release, Booka Shade will be playing their first ever DJ show in Berlin at Weekend this Saturday, December 10th, so if you’re in the area, head over to Booka Shade’s Facebook to enter to win spots on their VIP guestlist!
