March is by far the busiest, yet most fun month of the year for dance music lovers and professionals. SXSW (Austin) and WMC (Miami) both host tens of thousands of enthusiasts from around the world, and this year we teamed up with our good friends TAVIK, a music driven lifestyle brand designed for active individuals engaged in modern beach culture, for an epic RV road trip across America, hitting stops from Los Angeles to Miami over the course of nearly two weeks, starting Tuesday, March 19th. With our very own GDD DJs Bones, Troy Kurtz, and Burn Unit in tow, we hopped on board a few of our friends’ showcases, as well as presented a couple ourselves. Here’s how it all went down…

From LA to Scottsdale to Austin to Dallas to New Orleans to Miami, our GDD resident hooligans Troy Kurtz, BONES, and Burn Unit have taken the experience of the GDDRV journey and produced 3 essential sets wrapped into an hour of the ultimate vibe. It was recorded and created literally on the roadtrip while burning highways across the country. This was originally proposed for our guest mix on Evolution Radio (airing this Saturday 3/23), but we have decided to unleash it early for you dirty dancers, so you can catch up on all the action and step into the drivers seat of the GDDRV…

Hope this helps you shape up your plans if you’re going to be in Miami through the weekend!

We have arrived. There’s no better way to establish you’re officially in Miami then to hit Gigi’s in midtown next to Bardot and get some pork buns. One of my favorite meals of the year, which coincidentally leads straight into one of our favorite parties of the year, the traditional first Tuesday night of WMC outing at Bardot.

This year we were lucky enough to land a top heavy line-up curated by Alex Metric, complete with Oliver, Amtrac, UZ, Destructo, Aeroplane, and the man himself. Troy Kurtz and Trevor Bones got the party warmed up for Destructo while Jonah and myself played an admittedly awful game of pool as the event started to fill up. The man behind HARD Fest, Destructo, played a booty funkin’ set that really helped cultivate an amazing vibe that would survive the rest of the night.

As the morning hours creeped near Jonah and myself found ourselves in a raving electric golf cart in South Beach on our way to Story Nightclub, where an OWSLA takeover consisting of a properly weird Brodinski & Gesaffelstein b2b set as well as a headlining set by Skrillex were going down. With an endless amount of booze flowing backstage and no worries about where we had to be in the AM we stuck around until Alvin Risk teased the sun with his signature sound and we finally snagged a ride back home.

OWSLA

Not willing to give up on the night just yet, we headed for the beach to find various groups of other young revelers also foregoing a solid night’s rest in favor of the endless good times to be had. It was a long day indeed, but we knew it was just the beginning of our 6-day stint in Miami for Winter Music Conference, and with a solid slate of Wednesday pool parties quite literally on the horizon we finally headed back to the RV to get a few hours rest.

Make sure you’re caught up on the rest of the adventure by reading the TAVIK blog and stay tuned there for more updates, photos, and videos!

After a long day traversing the South and experiencing a part of the country most of us had never really seen before except on Swamp People on the History Channel – we travelled through Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and nearly all of Florida in a day – we had finally arrived at Casa de Kurtz only two short hours outside of Miami. The promise of waking up to a home cooked breakfast had us all foaming at the mouth, as we were looking at the meal as a Last Supper of sorts. It’s a short jaunt to Miami from here, and even after six days on the road, we couldn’t be more excited to finally get to our favorite week of the year.

Winter Music Conference is a truly special time, where friends from all over the world converge, and friends from all over the world are made. Seminal songs of the coming year come out, legends are born, myths are created, artists take risks, and overall everyone just tends to have a really fucking good time.

We kick things off tonight with a little Gotta Dance Dirty showcase at our annual Tuesday night kickoff at Bardot near Downtown Miami (3456 N Miami Ave Miami, FL 33127). The bill is quite massive if we do say so ourselves, with Alex Metric, Aeroplane, Destructo, Oliver, UZ, and Amtrac gracing the bill. If you’re in town definitely make it over and if you recognize any of us don’t be shy! And stay tuned for our Day & Nite party guide, which will be going up a bit later today, to get all of our recommendations for the best daytime and nighttime gigs around town for each day left of WMC.

If you’re wondering how the first week of the TAVIK Presents #GDDRV tour has been, catch up on the adventure so far over on the TAVIK blog!

After a much needed sleep recharge, we awoke the next day revived and ready to hit Austin hard. Downtown was already bustling with crowds swarming the streets, a cool breeze making our trek all the worth while. We headed straight to the Fader Fort party, eager to experience what had been talked up as a must during the week of events. Our early arrival paid off huge, beating the masses (which would later make to be one of the most serious lines we had ever seen). The Fader Fort was no makeshift showcase – the fort-like layout featured interactive areas with everything from free haircuts to foosball to a serious open bar with Bushmills Arnold Palmers and unlimited tall cans of Budweiser.

We got there just in time to see the SXSW debut of UK’s Rudimental, an incredible live performance that as they described “put soul back into electronic music.” After some downtime in the couch abundant lounge area, we caught sets by Ra Ra Riot, afro-punk duo The Bots, the heavily anticipated live performance of Disclosure (that did not disappoint), and phenom rapper Future, who brought out T.I. and Usher…

After the wild night, we packed up and set our sites for Austin. Trev took the wheel for the first 7 hours while Matt and Jonah went into a deep tequila-induced slumber, and as we write this Mr. Kurtz is pumping Tom Petty’s greatest hits and “driving us as fast as possible so we can catch Trinidad James” at SXSW.

First ever trip to Austin for all four of us. Needless to say we’re pumped. And keeping the buzz going after we just picked up a 30-rack of Coors Light next to the Sonic we just stopped at. Hear about our first night at SXSW and the awesome iHeartComix #SUPERPARTY…

Since the calendar flipped over to March a few weeks back I have barely been able to focus on Winter Music Conference. It usually invades my mind on an hourly basis throughout the first few weeks of the month, but this time around I know there is plenty of treacherous ground to cover before we even get to sunny Miami, FL, and as excited as I am for that, there’s a whole week of events before we ever set foot in that great city.

On Tuesday, we awoke to the task of procuring our vessel for the maiden voyage of the #GDDRV. Troy Kurtz and Jonah Berry set out on a mission to pick-up our…
