We begin September with a very special edition of our guest mix series featuring the virtuosic producer known as Max Cooper. As one of Resident Advisor’s top live acts of 2012, he is known for his all-original sets that span from sublime melody-driven soundscapes to glitchy techno. His guest mix embodies this diverse, fine-tuned style that is both emotive and ethereal on a fundamental level. Max has included tons of unreleased tracks, so have a listen for an inside look on his future material. (tracklist after the jump)
In addition to the mix, we were able to catch up with him about his experience making music while getting his PhD in genetics, the best advice he has received, what he likes to drink and more. Read his responses and check out his upcoming tour dates after the jump.

Being the newest writer at GDD it is an honor to be able to bring you my top tracks at the moment, as well as pair up with an artist like JeromeLOL for my first ever Dirt segment. I’ve been quite the festival creature lately, and being blasted by so much electro and prog house has my ears exhausted. With that being said, these picks from myself are more or less the tunes I bump on the way there/home in order to create some sense of balance. Big thanks to JeromeLoL for taking the time to collab and be sure to check out his most recent mix, perfect for cruising around in your Subaru.

After a long hiatus, Phonat returned with the release of his excellent, forward-thinking Identity Theft EP on OWSLA just last week. The genre-defying producer/DJ now takes things one step further with his GDD™ Guest Mix that is nothing short of phenomenal. Phonat brings you through everything from vibey mid-tempo grooves to disco, and even some UK-tinged deep cuts. This generous offering is simply a must-have for any dance music fan. This week’s edition of the GDD™ guest mix series comes from the budding UK producer/DJ known as Bobby Tank. The MofoHifi Records signee has built a name around a well-crafted blend of melodic, synth-heavy, and pop-conscious future garage that is both eclectic and refined. Bobby Tank has hand-picked a number of excellent tracks, and mixed them together to form a balanced, vibey offering that features a wide range of styles from downtempo to house. This week’s guest mix comes courtesy of the Oakland resident and bass music maestro, Gladkill. After seeing him kick off his Summer festival season as a headliner for the sold-out Lucidity Festival, I was certain that we needed to feature him. If you’re not already familiar with Gladkill, he has built a name around his soulful brand of melodic dubstep that provides for an emotive, down-to-earth vibe. He launches his brand new mix series, “Sessions,” that serves to showcase some of his new original music while exploring sonic and spacial territories.
In the midst of this guest mix and his recent performances, he has been deep in the studio gearing up for a stacked schedule of more live dates and festivals including Lightning in a Bottle, Shambhala, Bounce Festival and Enchanted Forest, among others. Enjoy this mix, and keep an eye out for future installments of his mix series, as well as a new release due out in Fall 2013.

After hearing Andrea‘s consistently stunning tracks, and watching his all too brief Life is a Banana live set, I was inclined to feature him on a GDD™ Guest Mix. As a producer/DJ from France, he doesn’t quite fit the general style that typically comes to be associated with the European country. Andrea has a keen sense of the bass-driven underground as he tends to gravitate towards a soulful, downtempo sound with lush atmospheres and a hint of hip-hop influence. His excellent 30 minute mix exhibits his distinctive taste and strong vibes that will keep you coming back for more.

Enjoy an hour of Sleepyhead’s groovy, hand-picked selections that maintain his inimitable style. Catch him live tonight in New York at Broke City 28!
