2014 has been a busy year for Ghosts of Venice. After a string of releases as well as remixes for Mystery Skulls, French Horn Rebellion and even a very special Valentine’s Day guest mix for us – he’s back with “Make Your Move”: A track that reworks the 80’s original for the modern dance floor, backed with a music video that pays homage to his new home, Los Angeles.

After nearly 10 years of composing and playing guitar/keyboards for the band Lotus, Luke Miller, aka Luke the Knife, turns his diverse musical skills and experience towards the DJ booth to revive a more organic funk and disco sound in the scene. With his extensive catalog of remixes and re-edits, he has been building a brand fit for the modern dance floor, much like his groovy jam band roots. Luke now gives us a guest mix that packages his tasteful nu-disco style into an impressive feel-good offering that includes many of his own stand-out edits, along with great tracks like Classixx’s remix of Panama’s “Always,” and the Treasure Fingers remix of “Without You” by Dillon Francis ft. TEED, among others. Download/Listen to the mix below and don’t miss his DJ sets or live performances that incorporate guitar, keys, guest drummers, percussionists, and a saxophonist.
Laura D and Three Wise team up yet again to bring this weeks top picks for the Dirt! Check out some chill vibes from Patchrik, King Thing, Marvin Gaye and Duncan Murray a lil bit of hip-hop from Childish Gambino, Nosaj Thing x Chance The Rapper and uplifting deep cuts from Kill Them With Colour, Kenny Gray and Autograf.
Another month, and another fixtape from our friends over at Solé Bicycles. This time they chose French Horn Rebellion to head the tape. They are two brothers that were born in Milwaukee & currently reside in Brooklyn. When Robert told the Chicago Civic Orchestra to F off, he created French Horn Rebellion and decided to lay down his own funky beats instead. It was a great move, as the sounds speak for themselves. This tape is very intricate & lively. There is never a dull moment, nor an instrument forgotten. We can’t wait to see what the boys come up with next. Now speed off into the future and get immersed in the weird, weird world around you.
Funktastic Brooklyn duo, French Horn Rebellion, put up their latest single, “Girls,” for free via Soundcloud last week, and it’s a fun, feel-good track made complete by verses from Le Tigre’s JD Samson and southern rap talent, Fat Tony. Catchy, lighthearted, and genuinely entertaining, “Girls” is accompanied by a remix from GDD™ favorite, Rogue Vogue, out of Chicago who tastefully chops up the vocals of the original and adds his signature disco groove style on top. Listen below and download here.
French Horn Rebellion, Database, and Justin Faust all in one track, and it’s an amazing convergence. Happy, funky, and light-hearted, this remix from Justin Faust keeps the Pop vocals and jams it up into a nice dancefloor filler. Break out the rollerskates and cocaine!
Make sure to catch French Horn Rebellion tonight at Rockwood in NYC for the Imagem CMJ Showcase!

There couldn’t be a better time for an over-abundance of songs filled with sun-kissed vibes for the beginning of our summer here in California. I told you in my last Waves there would be another compilation on the heels of the first, and shazam, here it is. You know the drill, grab your honey, a boom box, and get poolside. Peace and shibby!
“The waves ≠ raves consists of hand-picked gems that inspire us, tickling and tempting our creative juices. Some are old, some are new, but it is what we are listening to now. They are groovey, flowing, and sun-kissed just like that perfect wave. They are uplifting and guaranteed to put a smile on your face. They sound the best with a babe in one hand, a cold brewski in the other, and the sand beneath your feet. Stay Dreamy.”
