CONTROL (4/20) ft. FELIX CARTAL, CLOCKWORK, BIRD PETERSON


Making one of his notorious stops to the decks of the Avalon, the hard hitting suavé Felix Cartal brings his Different Faces album tour to CONTROL this Friday. This time, he’s joined by big room electro phenom Clockwork and bass jackin’ veteran Bird Peterson. Supporting sets will be provided by DigitaLife and Billy Noorlag. With the momentum this tour has right now, and being April the 20th (we’ll just say), I wouldn’t wanna miss out on how hard, heavy, and hazy this one is gonna get. This event will reach capacity early, so please RSVP below and arrive before doors to guarantee entry!

BONES – SAHARA 2012 MIX

In praise of the madness about to ensue in the desert for the next 2 weekends, I have created a celebration to the structure that will serve as a haven to much of the music that has built GDD™ to what it is today. I present to you the BONES SAHARA 2012 MIX, built on some of the biggest tracks in dance music as of current, along with a few surprises from the future. GDD™ Exclusive: Felix Cartal – Triple Deke (Original Mix)

GDD™ fav, Felix Cartal, will be releasing his sophomore album, Different Faces, on Dim Mak Records next Tuesday, March 27th, and today we are able to exclusively premiere the heaviest, rawest song from the LP, ‘Triple Deke.’ This track brings me back to the first thuds that I heard from FC back in 2007/2008 — the winding breakdowns and dancefloor smashing hooks are signature Felix Cartal. Here’s what he had to say about it:

“Possibly the heaviest track on the record, also the most effective on the dance floor. One of the few songs on the record that touches on my roots of making very aggressive, almost punk rock energy in dance music. I named it Triple Deke to allude to my past, a hockey reference, a big part of my life when I was younger, the same way this heavy music was important to me when I was younger as well.” Continue Reading

VERSUS (3/1) ft. Hot Mouth

It wasn’t long ago when Jon Pegnato made up half of LA Riots, but now, he has embarked on a solo mission under the Hot Mouth moniker, bringing Electro and House to the masses. In the past couple of months, Hot Mouth has been busy. Besides signing with Liaison Artists and playing at the Palms in Vegas every week, he’s been working on collaborations with Felix Cartal, Nom De Strip, TJR, and more, as well as putting together a monthly mix series for our lucky ears here at GDD™. Now, it is time for Hot Mouth to make his VS debut at The Central in Santa Monica, and we couldn’t be more excited. Support on the night will come from SF’s Realboy, Gojira, and Check&Mate.

Dim Mak presents Felix Cartal + Harvard Bass at Drai’s Hollywood Tonight!

What a weekend it’s been so far, and there’s still one more event tonight on our schedule. Our friends at Dim Mak will be hosting Felix Cartal and Harvard Bass at Drai’s in Hollywood for an amazing party to culminate your weekend. It’s a special night for Felix, as he’ll be celebrating the release of ‘Don’t Turn On The Lights,’ which came out on Dim Mak in December.

Though they all share a common dirty-ness to them, we chose these tracks for unique reasons – and what better way to convey that then to charm you with our personal opinion on why you should direct yourself to the download link immediately (the best way we know how to).

DIRTY
• Felix Cartal & Keatch – Lazy Bird (Original Mix) √+
I’ve literally waited over a year for this track to be released, and for it to have stayed locked away until just a week ago is a marvel in its own. We all know that Felix Cartal has caught our attention once again with his recent productions, but the help of Belgium-based Keatch makes their collaborative EP’s Solar and now Animals unmatchable. Grab this in 192 and do yourself a solid and purchase the full EP here.

BIG ROOM
• Swanky Tunes & Hard Rock Sofa – Feedback (Original Mix) √+
This summer wherever you are in festival mode, you’re gonna hear headliners from the main stage (you should know who) playing this massive collaboration between big room track kings Swanky Tunes and Hard Rock Sofa. This one also has the same riff as Daft Punk’s ‘Rollin & Scratchin’ – but takes it to a level suitable for crowds in the 25,000+ category. BIG.

DIRTY DISCO
• In Flagranti – Worse For Wear (Punks Jump Up Remix) √+
The first time I heard this in the Light Year Summer Mix, I played the mix over and over just because of this track. The howling bass line behind the drums, claps and cowbells (with a hint of dirty sax) turn the original vocal into a drunken disco fire-starter.

BASS
• DJ Fresh – Louder (Club Mix) √+
Even though I don’t play out dubstep (or bass music for that matter) in my sets, I still respect it very much because of anthems like this one. This track is special however because of the newly found sound of drum & bass hero DJ Fresh. Groundbreaking tune, a MUST even if you don’t care for dubstep. Grab this 192, but get serious with the 320 here.

FUNKY
• Julio Bashmore – Battle For Middle You √+
This officially came out at the very start of this year, but I haven’t been able to stop playing it out in my sets, in my car, or any where I can feel some low end with this baby. Julio Bashmore creates a love child with funk, soul and bass driven rhythm. In fact, the lyrics in the tune actually ring true because they definitely make me wanna get up, stomp my feet, and get down.

FUTURE
• Kry Wolf – 3001 (Original Mix) √+
AC Slater struck gold when he discovered Kry Wolf and signed him to his Party Like Us label. His production flies across the board, but this track is titled ’3001′ because it is takes you that far ahead in time to the future of the drop. Let this one grow on you, it’s the best kind of WEIRD you could ask for.

SUMMER BLOCKBUSTER
 • CSS – Hit Me Like a Rock (Dillon Francis Remix)
Another killer free tune from Mr.Francis. Radio rips have been floating around for awhile, but it was finally released this past week.

DRUM & BASS
 • Botnek – Jerpa (Botnek Drum & Bass Remix)
An uncommon Drum & Bass remix from this up and coming Canadian Duo. If you like this track, check out the guest Dirt they did a few weeks back for some more major tunes. They are definitely a group to watch.

MOOMBAHTON
 • Tittsworth & Alvin Risk – Pendejas
Great new track from two of Washington DC’s best. More along the lines of moombahcore. If you dig artists like Munchi & Dillon Francis you will love this track.

ELECTRO DISCO
 • LBCK – Instant Party
Great new track with a great summer vibe, Huge EP from the Long Beach based duo.

GRINDCORE
 • Bassnectar – Upside Down
A new release from one of the bass game’s heavyweights. It is just what we have come to expect from Bassnectar over the years: HEAVY HEAVY bass.

ELECTRO HOUSE
 • Lady Gaga – The Edge of Glory (Porter Robinson Club Mix)
I am usually not a huge fan of any of the new pop electro house that has been going around these days. But I must admit, I really like this track. The drop in the middle is worth the download!
