Feel good ambassador, Falcon Punch, is one guy you can always count on to serve up some proper Disco. Whether it’s cocktail hour, a late night dance session or relaxin’ & tannin’, Falcon Punch always sets the right mood with the perfect type of Disco. His new track, “Square One”, samples the Brothers Johnson’s “You Make Me Wanna Wiggle”, and as expected…it has all the makings of a seasonal classic. It’s the type of breezy, Springtime funk that’ll make you wiggle up & out of your chair right onto the dance floor.
Los Angeles producer (and GDD homeboy) Falcon Punch has teamed up with New York mystery producers PIXELATED on the brand new track “Flying High”. Here’s what Avery Henderson, aka Falcon Punch, had to say about the song:
“This song has been in the works for a long time and finally came together when I teamed up with NYC based producers PIXELATED to finish it up adding guitar, bass and several other elements to tie it all together.”
And how beautifully it all does tie together. The combination of soothing Baelerica & mesmerizing Nina Simone sampled vocals are sure to keep you in a trance for whatever journey you may be on. Whether it’s a top down, cross-country drive, a sail across the sea or a plane ride above the clouds, this song will most certainly keep you “Flying High”.
Imagine cruising around the waters of Long Beach, CA on board a triple decker ship, while a multitude of killer acts– this time including GDD™’s TROPICOOL and our good friends NICEFINGERS– play across 2 stage areas, indoors and out. On 4th of July weekend 2013, a lively and very boatworthy crowd of 600 people did just that, to fantastic effect. Boatylicious was born and is now back for round two…
Carrying on in our Dirt Artist Series, this week I’ve teamed up with virtual super producer, Matrixxman — the San Francisco-based studio whiz who can literally make everything from Italo Disco to Rap. Seriously, the dude emanates versatility. He initially came on my radar when he and Sinden teamed up with Mykki Blanco (a personal fav of mine) for “haze.boogie.life,” and since then I’ve been consistently impressed with anything and everything Matrixxman, including two new ones that came out this week which you can grab for free in this Dirt. Make sure to head over to his Soundcloud to check his whole catalog and get ready for a very eclectic Dirt selection from both of us below. Biggups to Matrixxman for the early 80s Disco jams in his picks. √+ Continue Reading

“The waves ≠ raves consists of hand-picked gems that inspire us, tickling and tempting our creative juices. Some are old, some are new, but it is what we are listening to now. They are groovey, flowing, and sun-kissed just like that perfect wave. They are uplifting and guaranteed to put a smile on your face. They sound the best with a babe in one hand, a cold brewski in the other, and the sand beneath your feet. Stay Dreamy.”
GDD™ favorite Falcon Punch has a brand new track out today called “Illusion”. The track is an homage to the three-piece British R&B/funk band from the 80s, Imagination and their song “Just An Illusion”. Falcon Punch gives the original track a major boost with his modern disco funk rework. So funky + catchy…after a few listens it’ll have you playin’ the air keys and slappin’ da BASS in no time.
For all those that love getting a tan in the winter, thongs thinner than dental floss, and glistening bootay reflected off the Mediterranean Sea, this mix tape is for you. By our very own Tropicool, this tape will put the funk back in your step and make your day sparkle brighter than a disco ball at Studio 54. There are tons of exclusives littered in this mix tape and all for your aural pleasure. Enjoi, and let the Tropo-funk warm your soul.
Earlier this week GDD homie Falcon Punch sent over his new track: an impressive collaboration with Dutch disco-house duo Keljet entitled ‘Saturday Night’. The tune samples the familiar funk-laden bassline of Room 5‘s ‘Make Luv’, and delivers a serene slice of nu-disco you’ll find yourself vibing to long after the record has drawn to a close.
