Tomorrow, Burn Unit and I will be embarking on our journey North to the first SnowGlobe Music Festival in Lake Tahoe for New Year’s Eve. The excitement and anticipation of the Wintery mountain vibes coupled with a star-studded lineup leaves me with an urge to turn the clocks forward so the festivities can finally commence. Not only is this festival great for the music, but also the other things that the organizers are including such as the art, installations, and performers that will create an experience unique to this year’s SnowGlobe. If you still don’t have plans for NYE, you may regret not taking advantage of this excellent opportunity, so grab tickets while you still can.
On top of the outstanding festival line-up you can’t forget about the official late night events taking place put on by our good friends from SF BLAP Productions, with performances by Porter Robinson, Dillon Francis, MiM0SA, and more every night from Thursday to Saturday! On Friday night make sure to catch GDD’s very own Matt Black aka Burn Unit spinning with Madeon at the Horizon Stateline Casino! Click the link above for tickets!
If you can’t make it, come back here next week for our full review! Check out my tentative artist selections, videos, and some relevant music for the drive out after the jump.

So we took last week off of The Dirt and we sincerely apologize for it, but what better way to come back this week than with a mouthwatering, user-submitted buttshot and a terrific 11-pack of tunes to get you ready for the weekend! As usual, we have a bit of everything in here, so either take our word for it and download everything via the zip files, or pick and choose which ones sound good to you. Happy Dirt day people.
JACKIN’ TECH HOUSE
• Riva Starr, Major Lazer – Jump (The Martin Brothers Remix) √+ [Beatport]
Out last month on the Snatch! subsidiary label, Snatch! Special, this remix of Jump by Christian and Justin blends the familiar sounds of Snatch! and DirtyBird and is deservedly the first track on the compilation release.
VOCAL INDIE NU DISCO
• Metronomy – Everything Goes My Way (Ewan Pearson Remix) √+ [Beatport]
I first heard this remix on Danny Daze‘s guest mix for Nic Fanciulli‘s Worldwide Sounds podcast. I love the original from Metronomy and Ewan Pearson sticks to the main elements while incorporating a great Nu Disco feel.
TECHNO + HOUSE
• Lazy Ants & Rob Threezy – Chi to Rome (Mike Mago Remix) √+
Set for release next Monday the 19th, the Chi to Rome EP from Lazy Ants and Rob Threezy incorporates some of my favorite genres: Acid House, Chicago House, and Techno. This remix from BMKLTSCH Records head honcho, Mike Mago, delivers a bit of a Chicago House vibe while incorporating the repetition of a solid Techno tune.
EPIC DREAMWAVE
• Cut Copy – Sun God (Andrew Weatherall Remix) √+
Cut Copy received a Grammy nod for Best Dance/Electronica Album a couple weeks ago for their fantastic Zonoscope LP, and in celebration they’ve released this nearly 9-minute epic remix from the legendary Brit, Andrew Weatherall. It’s a must have.
LUVSTEP
• Traveler – Phantom (Original Mix) √+
I just posted on these guys earlier this week, but I felt like I needed to include this track in The Dirt this week because it’s been on such heavy rotation since I downloaded it on Monday. Keep a serious eye out for Traveler in 2012.
DISCO
Gigamesh is heating up the Winter by bringing back the classic “Disco Inferno” with great taste and extra grooves. It’s just another gem to add to the quality Gigamesh catalog.
HEAVY ELECTRO
• Uppermost – Positive [Beatport]
Uppermost displays his refined production skills with a harder hitting, Justice type sound in “Positive,” a track of off his latest release, Action.
DRUM ‘N’ BASS
• Sigma – Do You Love [Beatport]
This round of the Dirt calls for a tune from the always dependable Sigma. I find it necessary to have a little up-tempo energy and this easily gets the job done.
BASS FUSION
I’m sure you could relate on how good it feels to come across a great artist and my latest discovery is Glasgow’s Rustie. With a unique and distinct style, he’s definitely one to look out for, especially with support from BBC’s Annie Mac.
DUBSTEP
• Metric – Collect Call (Adventure Club Remix)
They’re known for their remixes, and it’s to no surprise that Adventure Club has put together a great arrangement of Metric’s “Collect Call.” Having the foundation of great vocals to work with facilitates the production process, but they certainly take it a step further.
DOWNTEMPO
• Emancipator – Elephant Survival
Emancipator is one of my favorite producers to chill to and with his laidback, flowing vibe, there’s not much else I could ask for. If you don’t already “like” his Facebook, I suggest you do so as he gave this track out for free today after reaching 30,000 fans!
♥ jonahberry + Toks
Good morning! Today’s news is comprised of music and new releases from James Blake, Moby, & Gorillaz. It’s raining here in Los Angeles, so I found it appropriate to post an Emancipator stream to start the day, but SoundCloud is still letting me down. Listen to the track while you read more on the morning update after the jump…
