For the musicians and producers out there, I’m sure you would agree that it is always a difficult process to transform a work of art and make it your own. Seven Lions, aka Jeff Montalvo, certainly lived up to the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for an upcoming producer to have a release on Above & Beyond‘s revered Anjunabeats label. They held a remix contest for “You Got To Go” and he won unanimously with his skillfully crafted dubstep track. Not only did he make the original tune his own, but he harnessed the heaviness of dubstep, while still maintaining the atmospheric aesthetics of trance. Put simply by Above & Beyond, ”musically it works, vocally it works and the production is excellent.” Support Seven Lions and purchase his remix on Beatport!

While most of the country is scraping ice off their windshields, residents of Miami are closing out 2011 with probably the biggest pool party of the year this Sunday poolside at Arkadia. Skrillex, the dark prince of dubstep, will be headlining alongside the moombahton maestros Nadastrom, Damaged Goods, and myself. It kicks off at 2pm at the Fontainebleau Hotel and goes until 8pm. The party is 21+, and tickets can be purchased here.
TICKET GIVEAWAY: Go to my Facebook page and tell me what you would wear to a Skrillex pool party if you won a free ticket!
*I’ll also be playing at Arkadia tonight for my Friday night residency!
GDD veterans Caligula and newly crowned regular Joe Maz have taken two of Dev’s tracks and turned them on their heads. Caligula transforms ‘Dancing in the Dark’ into one of their finest dubstep remixes yet, while Joe Maz catapults ‘Kiss My Lips’ into a maniacal big-room monster.

Fresh off conquering the 50-date sold-out Mothership Tour, John Dadzie aka 12th Planet has returned home to Los Angeles to host the SMOG 5 Year Anniversary event. The lineup, topped by dubstep don Skream, is massive, filled with the entire SMOG label roster as well as secret guests that are sure to make this an event for the record books.
The real treat will be a special debut screening of 12th Planet: A Documentary. Directed by creative visionary and esteemed LMU-film graduate Mollie Tarlow, the film takes you over almost 2 years of the wild ride of 12th Planet on tour and subsequently the rising emergence of dubstep in America. It also features scenes from the top music festivals across the nation and appearances by some of the biggest names in dance music.
“SMOG, the dubstep record label that changed the American dubstep game (you could say even helped CREATE it), is celebrating its fifth year of existence, and it will be the birthday celebration to end all. Only five years ago, SMOG chiefs John Dadzie, Danny Johnson (head of Media Contender), and Drew Best ganged together in an effort to bring a new genre of music they felt so passionately about to the states. I think that I can speak for each of them when I say NOBODY knew that dubstep, the music few people knew about and even fewer were creating, would become what it is today. It’s been an incredibly exciting ride for everybody involved, and all along SMOG has been there shining the best light on one of the biggest rising genres in the music world today.” - Laura D, Media Contender

That’s right, Sub Antix is back and he is blurring genre lines. Vendetta is an epic track that takes its influence from both tribal techno and UK dubstep. Sub Antix has truly done it again with his use of choirs-style synths, intricate ethnic drums and that dark grimy bass that you all know and love.
Watch out for a plethora of Sub Antix releases this summer, including a very long-awaited collaboration with Enigma.

Colorado underground hip-hop and all around bass producer Timeline has just released an EP on Overthrow Music Authority. The three track dubstep EP is filled with classic samples and some beautiful melodies that separates his sound from a lot of the noise that is now commonly associated with the genre. He gave us an exclusive track called ‘Somebody’, which is a groovy Hospital Recs inspired DnB tune that’s been graciously stuck in my head for the better part of this week. Purchase the EP on Beatport.

Fresh off of massive performances at Ultra and SXSW and prepping for an equally massive US tour, ZEDS DEAD have gotten love from everyone from BBC Radio 1′s Kissy Sell Out to GQ Magazine to Much Music (Canada’s MTV, remember?) while maintaining the signature raw energy of their live shows alongside the elegant brutality of their productions.
You’ve been chomping at the bit on our GDD Facebook since we announced this release, so without further ado it is my distinct pleasure to present to you ZEDS DEAD – 1975. Full track download, tour dates and a video of Christiano Ronaldo’s righteously (ridiculously) sexy Russian girlfriend Irina Shayk grinding dirty to the track in her intimate wear. Seriously…
