Welcome back to another edition of the Quick-hitter! We’ve been seeing a lot of UK dj/producer Vanilla Ace here in the States this summer, and wanted to catch up with him amidst his US tour and headlining Afternoon Delight this Sunday @ The Standard Hotel rooftop in downtown LA… we’ll keep this short and sweet!
GDD: Vanilla Ace! You’ve been on a huge US summer tour, most notable just playing HARD Summer and Splash House… whats been some of your favorite shows on the tour so far? VA: All the shows have been great so far, HARD and Splash house were fun and messy! I also had a great time playing Bardot in Miami and Audio in San Francisco.
GDD: You’ve been hard at work in the studio w/ remixes for Moon Boots, Destructo, and originals with Sharam Jey, Adam Banks and Lora… what else do you have in the pipeline that you can hint us about? VA: I have two original releases on the way, ‘What you need’ single on Incorrect and the in demand ‘I’m hot’ EP on LouLou players. Both are out in the next few weeks.
GDD: Speaking of, your production is known in the “gangster house” category… whats one thing you do in the studio thats a signature to make it Vanilla Ace? VA: Only some of the music I make is ‘G-House’, the Moon Boots remix I just did with Barber is definitely more on the proper ‘deep house’ vibe. But to answer the question a signature Vanilla Ace production usually has a killer bass line and spooky/unusual synths/pads.
GDD: You play the “Afternoon Delight” @ The Standard Hotel rooftop this Sunday… whats your favorite thing about playing in LA? And are you afraid of heights? VA: I’m not afraid of heights but you wouldn’t catch me bungee jumping or sky diving anytime soon! I love LA, one of my favourite places in the world.
GDD: THINK FAST! What’s the last song you’d ever wanna listen to before you die? VA: Roachford – ‘Cuddly Toy’ , lol
Don’t miss Vanilla Ace alongside Adam Auburn and our very own BONES this Sunday, August 17th @ The Standard Hotel rooftop in downtown LA for Afternoon Delight! EVENT INFO RSVP NOW
Following the release of their brand new track ‘Desire Life’ that dropped last week, the duo from Brighton will be coming to play in LA for the first time tomorrow night at a secret location in DTLA. My Digital Enemy has found success atop the House charts, racking up numerous Top 10 appearances as well as garnering plays from the main man Pete Tong from BBC Radio1. There’s also a strong list of supporting talent for the event from the likes of Them Jeans, Rick Rude, Richie Panic, and Troy Kurtz. With a Funktion One sound system and full bar sorted out for the event, expect the walls of this party to be shaking late.
We’re very lucky to be bringing you this exclusive… the UK native and bass friendly Shadow Child has finally crossed the pond to come perform in the US, and he’s making his Los Angeles debut at Exchange LA this Saturday night! Coming off his massive essential mix debut last weekend, what better reason then to talk with the legend himself about how this whole project came to be and what he has planned for the future? Not only we’re we able to get some great insights in the interview, but we also have a very special VIP download for you guys
Gotta Dance Dirty, RollingTUFF and dubFrequency are excited to finally announce our new partnership w/ Insomniac Events to host INCEPTION SATURDAYS @ Exchange LA. This week we kick things off with house music queen Heidi, along with a live performance from legend Bob Moses, UK heavyweight Ewan Pearson, and opening support from Plastic Love. We invite all of you out to help celebrate our new weekly collective and the start of something great in DTLA for many Saturdays to come!
The past few months have been an absolute flurry of activity for the young Canadian remix prodigy that is Cyril Hahn. With undeniably infectious takes on tracks from female crooners like Destiny’s Child and Mariah Carey, his SoundCloud has hit massive play counts. It’s slowed R&B with pop sensibility… a danceable, oxytocin-laced fusion of groovy and catchy with touches of garage and UK vibes. Pretty much what every person with reasonable taste in music wants to put on their sex playlist. Who could be mad at that?
After his multitude of successes with his releases and mixes, he hit Europe for tour, and it’s finally that time for him to hit the states. Naturally it wouldn’t be a trip to the US without a stop in LA, which I am more than thrilled about. Having officially joined the AM Only roster, a whole North American tour in the works, and multitudes of Coachella friends in town, Cyril Hahn has much to be excited about for his show tonight at the Belasco. I can’t tell you who the special guests (YES, MORE THAN ONE!) are, but I can tell you it’s being presented by Goldenvoice (cough cough)… and you have two clues in the previous sentence. Oh yeah, I can also tell you that apart from Cyril Hahn guaranteed to provide some sexy jams this evening, the special guests are FUCKING AWESOME and you basically are a big dummy if you miss out.
Purchase tickets below, oh and if you’re on the fence about it (shame on you), go ahead and listen to the GDD Guest Mix he did to get you in the mood.
In liu of his upcoming release on his own label Party Like Us, AC Slater dropped the trailer to “Party Animals” today, successfully encompassing the party animal raucousness that he and the Slater gang have capitalized upon. The trailer bounces around a few of AC’s local DTLA jaunts, with jarred glimpses of his party crew, quite a few cameos from friends and neighbors if you can catch them.
AC Slater’s 4 track EP comes out next week on November 6th, featuring Nick Thayer, the lovely duo Nina Sky, and frequent collaborator Dell Harris respectively on three of the tracks. Be sure to grab it next week!
This is going to be awesome. Throwing a day party with our clothing manufacturer at their warehouse in the arts district downtown. Email me or just shoot me a text (760.533.4941) if you need any more information or if you’re interested in DJing.
I of course exclusively drive my imaginary Tesla Model S, but I like what Hyundai is up to. I haven’t had a chance to personally see the Veloster in action but more and more, we see major companies like Hyundai, Scion and Red Bull actively participating in the electronic music scene; curating, hosting, creating more than just their own product. From our perch in Los Angeles, this basically means a steady stream of free parties. Free parties are sick.
We’d like to thank everyone who came out for the last couple weeks of our VERSUS party downtown @ ICON. Unfortunately, the management was not on the same musically-oriented page as us, and we weren’t happy! We want this weekly party to be the easiest way for you guys to dance dirty on a Thursday night, and that includes location, price, and fun level (duh).
So this week, we bring you a special VERSUS party – underground disco edition @ the (downtown) Belasco Theater Basement. To keep the summer groovin vibes and the dirty disco atmosphere, we bring you a one-off event in one of the coolest locations in Los Angeles. The now LA-based U-TERN will showcase his disc jockey skills and be supported by our good buddies Guns In The Sun, along with our GDD resident chill wave Tropicool and dF’s No Shirt/No Shoes Bixel Boys. Man oh man, are we in for it again.
OPEN BAR: What makes this thursday more attractive? Oh yeah, the OPEN BAR until 11pm doesn’t hurt either. The party starts @ 10, so you oughta’ get there for the power hour to warm up those disco dance moves!
