I remember hearing about the Trouble & Bass crew years ago when I was at college in southern Virgina, just starting to get into electronic music and captivated by their exotic heavy bass and dark gotham aesthetic. Now, years later, I am so happy to call all of them my friends and to celebrate their monumental 7th anniversary.
Drop The Lime, Star Eyes and AC Slater have been straight hustlin’ the past 7 years and with so many amazing releases, the best fucking parties I’ve been to in Brooklyn and a Culture Clash win under their belt, it’s clear that this crew dominates crypts to clubs. To celebrate they’ll be hitting the west coast to perform this weekend and have shared this dope mix from AC Slater to get you ready to rave to the grave T&B style.
Luca has really stepped back from his Drop The Lime moniker to focus on Curses this year, and I have to say I’m happy about it. Bringing in deep, black basslines and heads down, hands up vibes, Curses shows a darker side to Luca that we just can’t get enough of. His latest work comes in the form of a remix for London-based Crystal Fighters‘ “LA Calling,” adding his Gotham Wave steez to the contrarily vocal and jovial original. √+
My favorite psyche-rock experimental group, American Royalty, is preparing for their massive release of the ‘Prismatic Remixes EP’ out July 9th on Guns In the Sun Records, featuring the likes of Jerome LOL, Kaytranada, Urulu, Steffi Graf, Drop the Lime, & Romaj. The amount of up-and-coming talent associated with this EP is downright ridiculous. Grab your knickers, fill up some chi chi, and get ready for the boogie woogie. First up is the deep funk mix by wonder duo Steffi Graf with just the right amount of vocal interlude right in the middle. Groove with your hips and talk with your hands.
Luca Venezia is taking some time off his Drop The Lime project to focus on what he calls “New Gotham House” under his longtime side project moniker, Curses. He’s hitting the ground running with an unbelievable new 2-track EP due out on Marble June 24th, featuring “So Good” as well as a massive collaboration with Surkin, Para One, and Canblaster titled “Deep In The Night.” Preview “So Good” below and have a listen to the √+ guest mix that Luca put together for big time Curses supporters, Skream & Benga.

2013 is without a doubt Trouble & Bass’ year. The Brooklyn-based label and DJ collective has so many upcoming releases and is making so many big moves that I had to chat with Luca Venezia of Drop The Lime fame and founder of the dark creative collective to make sure I had everything straight. And after witnessing the face melting awesomeness at their BASS CLASH event with Mixpak a few weeks ago, I’ve gotta say that these dark Dons are leaders in their field and definitely ones to watch.
We’ve been big supporters of T&B for years now, and we love when the Brooklyn Bass collective brings their sounds over to the left coast. This Saturday, we’re teaming up with our friends at iheartcomix for a massive event at one of our favorite venues, The Central in Santa Monica, where Drop the Lime will be headlining the night with a massive underbill featuring T&B’s The Captain, Tamara Sky, BONES, and CC Sheffield. Coincidentally, Trouble & Bass just put out a new mix today, featuring 12 collaborations with artists around the world, “spanning the gamut between house, dubstep, club music and rap — often all within the same tune.”
Buy tickets to Saturday’s event HERE.
Rockabilly returns this Friday at CONTROL! Drop The Lime will be bringing out his band once again to showcase his signature fusion of dance music with his Rockabilly roots. Supporting the live set will be DJ sets from the young gun on Wolfgang Gartner‘s Kindergarten Records, Popeska, as well as the familiar CHI-town fellas known as Midnight Conspiracy.
Please email names to RSVP@gottadancedirty.com to be on our discount guestlist for the evening. All names must be submitted by 530PM on Friday.

Coming off of a three week tour of Australia, a tour of North America with Feed Me, a handful of parties in Miami, and a recent relocation to Los Angeles, AC Slater comes back hard out of the studio with the bass-heavy Electro release, Sidewinder, due out on Brooklyn’s Trouble & Bass Recordings on May 8th. Sidewinder features a two-pack of originals from AC, along with a pair of big and bassy remixes from pals Drop The Lime and RackNRuin.
