2013 is without a doubt Trouble & Bass’ year. The Brooklyn-based label and DJ collective has so many upcoming releases and is making so many big moves that I had to chat with Luca Venezia of Drop The Lime fame and founder of the dark creative collective to make sure I had everything straight. And after witnessing the face melting awesomeness at their BASS CLASH event with Mixpak a few weeks ago, I’ve gotta say that these dark Dons are leaders in their field and definitely ones to watch.

We’ve been big supporters of T&B for years now, and we love when the Brooklyn Bass collective brings their sounds over to the left coast. This Saturday, we’re teaming up with our friends at iheartcomix for a massive event at one of our favorite venues, The Central in Santa Monica, where Drop the Lime will be headlining the night with a massive underbill featuring T&B’s The Captain, Tamara Sky, BONES, and CC Sheffield. Coincidentally, Trouble & Bass just put out a new mix today, featuring 12 collaborations with artists around the world, “spanning the gamut between house, dubstep, club music and rap — often all within the same tune.”

Rockabilly returns this Friday at CONTROL! Drop The Lime will be bringing out his band once again to showcase his signature fusion of dance music with his Rockabilly roots. Supporting the live set will be DJ sets from the young gun on Wolfgang Gartner‘s Kindergarten Records, Popeska, as well as the familiar CHI-town fellas known as Midnight Conspiracy.

Luca Venezia AKA Drop The Lime AKA Curses! has just put out a new summer mix this morning — including some fantastic grooving Chicago and New York House that works perfectly for any summertime soiree. He’s incorporated some “oldies but goodies” in this thirty-four minute mix — with submissions from Giorgio Moroder, Adonis, Raz, and a pair of originals that Luca has put out under the Curses! alias. Coming off of a three week tour of Australia, a tour of North America with Feed Me, a handful of parties in Miami, and a recent relocation to Los Angeles, AC Slater comes back hard out of the studio with the bass-heavy Electro release, Sidewinder, due out on Brooklyn’s Trouble & Bass Recordings on May 8th. Sidewinder features a two-pack of originals from AC, along with a pair of big and bassy remixes from pals Drop The Lime and RackNRuin. Just what you’d expect from a member of the T&B family, AC Slater delivers some low-end Electro that begs for a massive system. Get it into you after the jump. Continue Reading

This past Friday we had the whole Trouble & Bass crew take over CONTROL @ The Avalon, led by head honcho Luca Venezia aka Drop The Lime. If you missed this earlier this week like I did, Luca released a Winter Afterhours mix thats simply the cat’s meow. Packed with vintage styles of rock, electronic, blues, and reggae blended to create “house for the drive home.” Great for background music (when you wanna leave something on in your room, ya know) and definitely a cool change of pace for the Brooklyn badman.

*TRACK LISTING after the jump…

I’ve always felt like CONTROL at the Avalon provided a home away from home situation for the Trouble & Bass crew. Drop The Lime and AC Slater were some of the first acts that I ever saw at CONTROL, and it’s been great watching the artists and the party grow up together over the past 3 years. This week, the Heavy Bass Champions will return once more to 1735 Vine St. for a full-on takeover, featuring DJ sets from Drop The Lime, AC Slater, Star Eyes, The Captain, and Samo Sound Boy. What a lineup, right? Right.
