Acid House legend and king of the Roland 303, DJ Pierre, is a DJs DJ. Going strong since the late 80s, the Chicago stalwart is as relevant as ever; playing Coachella this past April, performing special guest sets on the BODY HIGH label tour last month in North America, and most recently, releasing a new remix for Spanish Techno producer, Dosem, out on LA-based Halocyan Records a week from today.
Ahead of the release, Pierre has put together an expansive mix for XLR8R of which he explains, “I wanted to disregard any rules or expectations, and I just dove in.” We love that. But don’t expect an hour of Acid here, as DJ Pierre has included a range of tastes making for a solid arrangement with numerous subgenres fitting under the big House umbrella. Download here and head over to the XLR8R Soundcloud to listen, and as a bonus, check a preview of DJ Pierre’s remix of Dosem’s “Atica” below.
I’m probably going to get a lot of shit for this one. So just as a precautionary disclaimer, I’m not really trying to encompass the infinite realm of what defines “acid” in both musical and personal experience senses of the term. So before you get your panties in a bunch that Phuture isn’t on here or your favorite Plastikman track is missing or one of these doesn’t have an “acid bassline,” just know that I am pulling the typical Burning Man “I don’t know man, you just gotta experience it yourseeeeelf” move and letting you know this is my personal derivative of what, to me, starts to entertain the idea of the drug we like to call “acid.”
Our buddy Steve Slingeneyer, or One Man Party and the drummer of Soulwax, has a seriously admirable taste in music. Besides being the percussive force behind one of the greatest dance music acts of all time, Steve also enjoys a bit of DJing as well, much like his band mates the Dewaele brothers of 2ManyDJs fame. Driven by this love of DJing, One Man Party has just released a brand new mixtape featuring an unbelievably cultivated tracklist featuring Justin Martin, DJ Pierre, Justice, a few tracks from OMP himself, and everything in between. Download it for free and check out the exquisite tracklist below. √+Continue Reading
The latest EP from the legendary DJ Pierre is slow burning, bassy, deep and of course, an acidic masterpiece. With his newest release, Acid/ Jack Da Groove, DJ Pierre has taken us back to that beautiful squelchy sound that was a staple of the Acid House recordings in the 80’s and 90’s. If you are a fan of the recent Acid House resurgence then I highly recommend you pick up this EP, you won’t be disappointed.
I think I can speak for everyone in North America when I say I’ve just about had enough of the cold weather and am more than ready for some hot hot hot. Not just because the bikinis are busted out, but because with the warmth comes the festival season. To kickstart the season of massives, HARD Weekend starts next Friday the 11th in Oakland, sweeping down to LA on Saturday the 12th and then onto New York City for March 18th and 19th.
This week’s Fresh Meat Mondayspostis a day late due to today’s release of the promo video for Hard Weekend. But, I think you guys will be happy with this specific giveaway. We have for you SMD‘s hit song “Cruel Intentions” respun by two of techno’s true legends; DJ Pierre, who many credit as inventing acid house, has remixed the track and John Digweed has put his own spin on it. Too much win.
