DJ Dodger Stadium are back with a brand new track + visuals to suit and the result is another smash hit for the forward thinking Body High label heads. The simplicity of the vocal tracking on DJDS records is what strikes me as so refined, (thanks Jerome LOL) and you can really feel the idea become a song in that regard. “You don’t have to be alone,” starts out as just words and becomes a feeling invoked sonically through progressive piano riffs and mind bending synth stretches complete with sporadic yet well placed percussive patterns (thanks Samo Sound Boy). It’s intrinsic in its nature, something we first heard from their debut LP and is more refined in their second run at production.
The visuals complete the package with courtesy of Directors Daniel Pappas and Nick Walker. Pappas is responsible for a majority of the visual treatment from “Friend Of Mine” and is complimented by Walker’s portfolio of video work for FKA Twigs, Beyonce, and Freddie Gibbs. I’m sure there are a lot of interpretations available as well as people who would say I’m thinking too much, but for me, the video represents a sense of disconnect from the city/suburban life and a reunion with the primordial relationships we developed with Mother Earth and others who cherish it’s sacred nature. Also, it could just be some dogs having a bomb ass day. Either way, the message is clear, you don’t have to be alone.

Los Angeles is buzzing with fresh techno and house. Whether a label or producer is just getting their start here, or setting up shop from wherever else in the world they came from, it’s becoming a hotspot for this sound and what’s happening here is quickly gaining notoriety like cities such as Berlin, Detroit, and London have. Two names that are keeping the pot bubbling are LA’s very own Body High and their newest signee’s Newbody.
LOL Boys have recently parted ways, but Jerome has solidified his new musical direction with the creation of Los Angeles imprint, Body High, as well as his project DJ Dodger Stadium with Samo Sound Boy. His solo moniker will be Jerome LOL for now, and we couldn’t be happier to welcome him back to VS this Thursday. We’ll have support from some great local talent including O-BE1, DirtyDuo, Half N Half, and Orion.
Body High is an up and coming imprint located here in Los Angeles run by the boys of DJ Dodger Stadium — better known to most as Sam AKA Samo Sound Boy and Jerome Potter of LOL Boys. The guys have put out 6 releases since the label’s inception in October of 2011, and it seems as if they’re on a roll with A&R as they’ll be putting out an EP from Floyd Campbell next week as well as this new single, ‘Bubble Boy,’ from the young gun out of New Orleans, Jim-E Stack, on July 3rd. Looking forward to it in a big way after hearing this preview…
This week we welcome the Burn The Fire family to CONTROL at the Avalon in Hollywood for a full label showcase. Chris Gaspar and Manuel Luquin, or Cold Blank, head up the label located right here in Los Angeles where they harbor talent from up and coming Electro sensations such as LAZRtag, DJ Arcade, Paradigm, and Prototyperaptor. Should be a loud one folks…
