The Juan Maclean is a musician who deserves to be recognized for his perseverance in the music industry. After his band Six Finger Satellite was struck with tragedy early on in his music career, he was close to never again returning to the production side of music. If it wasn’t for James Murphy‘s words of encouragement for Maclean to dabble in the electronic industry years later, his budding electronic career may never have come to fruition. With such an extensive catalog of originals, albums, and remixes, it’s no wonder he knocks, “You Are My Destiny” out of the park. The echoey synth pattern creates a late night environment for Nancy Whang‘s vocals to thrive in while the percussion section stays perfectly on point. With a digital release coming on April 9th from DFA Records, be sure to take advantage of the limited edition white label currently available from the label as well.
I love 3 day weekends. It always feels like I have 2 Fridays and Monday feels like Sunday. Couldn’t ask for anything better than that. On that note, the GDD™ crew will be heading out to Drai’s in Hollywood tonight for a DJ set from DFA Records‘ Holy Ghost! and some Sunday Funday antics. If you have yet to come out to Drai’s on a Dim Mak Sunday so far, this would be a perfect time to come check it out. Dress sharp you good lookin’ kids.
Last month, we heard that The 2 Bears will be releasing their debut album on DFA records on the 30th of January, and I couldn’t be more thrilled. The highly anticipated release will feature some of my favorite tracks of last year including ‘Be Strong,’ ‘Bear Hug,’ and their newest single just released this week, ‘Work.’ The ‘Work’ EP is incredible. Not only is the original an embodiment of all that I love about The 2 Bears, but it also comes along with top-notch remixes from Toddla T, Oliver $, Supabeatz, and Franky Rizardo. Stream below and go grab the whole thang on iTunes now.
Much to my excitement, The 2 Bears announced today that they will be releasing their debut album, Be Strong, on DFA Records digitally on January 31st, with a physical release coming sometime in the spring. Encompassing multiple genres from UK Funky to Dancehall to a bit of Garage, Be Strong embodies a sense of London soul that Joe Goddard and Raf Daddy have built up together over the past year or so, and it’s this uniqueness that has made me such a fan. To tide you over until the release in 2012, The 2 Bears have sent over the brand new music video to their track, ‘Work,’ which will be found on the new album.
Amidst the numerous entries that DFA records have been receiving for the remix competition of The Rapture‘s “How Deep Is Your Love,” one of the best perks is having some of the big guns offer there talent. Bang Gang crew’s Cassian just uploaded his remix this evening, absolutely for FREE. Here’s what the young auzzie had to say about it:
I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to remix this track. I’d been dying to do it since I first heard the tune. So here it is, my entry for the How Deep Is Your Love remix competition.
It’s about time that NYC-based Holy Ghost! got to headline their own tour. After opening up for the likes of LCD Soundsystem, Cut Copy, and Chromeo as well as releasing their incredible debut album on DFA Records this year, the dynamic duo is well-deserving of the 20-date tour that they’ll be embarking on this October and November. In addition to the upcoming North American jaunt where they’ll be accompanied by Jessica 6, Midnight Magic, and Eli Escobar, Holy Ghost! has teamed up with Austrian producer Wolfram to put together the latest single, ‘Hold My Breath,’ which will be released as an EP on October 17th complete with remixes from Tiger & Woods, Cosmic Kids, and Falty DL. Feast your eyes on another great music video from director Ben Fries, and check tour dates below for a stop near you.
