The whole GDD fam was lucky enough to spend weekend 1 of Coachella w/ our good buddy Bit Funk and had way too much fun. It was in the Do Lab when we first heard this one – his new flip on “Ghosts” by Higher Self. Bit Funk takes the future driven original and brings it back into deep disco warmth, shaping up a groovy anthem thats ready for summer. Listen below and grab it for FREE DOWNLOAD!
Bit Funk on
I’ve got to be honest here– it’s pretty neat to see your best buds produce music you really love, particularly when it’s one of GDD’s own. The first time Tropicool played this out, I leaned over and asked him what the Hell this remix was. You can imagine my delight when he replied, “an old analog Juno and some incredible stems.” You sly bastard.
His signature touch of feel-good cosmic radiation we know from his mixtapes and Waves ≠ Raves series shines through into his production as well, which that fabulous, fat bassline punches over all the way through. I’m not huge on disco, but I’m a sucker for a big sexy groove when I can get it, and this one’s got me hooked. Pour yourself a glass of rum and tell people it’s iced tea, there’s no turning back now… the funk has been unleashed.
The idea of Spring is observed around here as less of a season, and more of a feeling… it’s sunny and perfect year-round, from Santa Barbara all the way down to the border. A California-tongue-in-cheek way of saying, “Let’s wear less clothing than we do in the previous very slightly chillier months, and do you want to go ride bikes?” I believe that is exactly what my main man aRod beckons you to do with this latest installment in his now iconic SpringGlo mix series.
Five years of SpringGlo in the making, this signature of an effortlessly listenable mix features a selection of the usual choice sizzlers, as well the first Twelves remix in a bit, and a pretty righteous Todd Terje/Bryan Ferry track at the end.
If you would so kindly take up headphones and join us in chasing the sunset with a cocktail into the weekend, then yes, we would like to go ride bikes.
After a huge response from the premiere of their single “Cold Nights” earlier this year, the Brooklyn-based duo Chordashian have been hard at work with forthcoming productions set to release from now into the new year. We have for you today their follow-up original entitled “Skyscraper Souls”, which takes the beautifully melodic vocals of Marie Seyrat from Freedom Fry and carries them along playfully deeper house chords all the way through. Fans of Tensnake and the French Express crew will be all over this one, so listen below and grab it for FREE!
Fresh off their releases on Get Physical and Nervous just over a week ago, Thee Cool Cats show no sign of slowing down releasing another 2 track EP off of Get Twisted Records. The Got Body E.P. features two tracks showcasing the deeper/funk side of Thee Cool Cats signature style. Give the E.P. a listen below and grab a copy here. As always, keep it locked on these guys!

The young LA based label Prep School Recordings have delivered a summer-solid release to carry through this seasons warmer climate. Young guns SNBRN (formerly of No Body) and Mossberg Pump (LED) have cultivated a deeper disco vibe in this 2-track EP, capturing the sound of their Southern California-based origins and as they put are “As fresh as a poolside mojito.” The release just dropped today on Beatport and iTunes, and fans of French Express, Eskimo, and Future Boogie will be all over these tracks. Have a listen below and support these fresh faces!

Mexican producer Bufi is quickly rising as one of my favorite artists of 2012. With a distinct disco tinge to all of his tunes, they’re clearly made with the dancefloor in mind. The extended mix of ‘Will Be’ has been a secret weapon in my sets for the last few weeks, and he’s giving away 100 copies for those lucky few that are quick on the draw. The rest will have to head over to Juno and pick up the EP there that was released today on Electrique Music. For those of you living in New York, he has a few dates this month. Check those and the EP after the drop.
The southern-cal homegrown indie electro band American Royalty recently released a huge remix package for their newest singles. The Matchstck Remixes EP comes loaded with 6 wildly different remixes of 3 original tracks: 2 bassline driven versions by dirtybird’s own J.Phlip, a deep techno side from Bang Gang’s Light Year, and 3 breakthrough productions from young guns Richnuss, Stryker Matthews, and Slates.
The J.Phlip and Light Year remixes are of course top notch, but my favorite is the ‘high brow deep house with a garnish of disco’ mix by Richnuss (comprised of Billy Scher of American Royalty and Peter Nussbaum of Guns In The Sun). You decide – the EP is completely for FREE DOWNLOAD from their facebook page!

Little is known about the incognito artist/duo/group/robots Letthemusicplay besides the name reference to Shannon’s 1983 chart topping single titled, you guessed it, “Let the Music Play.” Mixmag, A-Trak, and The 2 Bears are supporting their first release titled “Space,” and DFA Records‘ Jacques Renault added his magic touch with a dark disco remix. Letthemusicplay also remixed the track, turning it into a deep disco hit. What I do know is that Letthemusicplay is/are someone to look out for in 2012.
