When a song comes together on the first take, it’s usually something special. This is exactly what happened with this fresh offering from the masterful producer David August, along with Sissi Rada, the harpist of David August & Ensemble. After hearing Sissi Rada singing in Greek and playing the harp, August invited her to record with him, they got together, and Sissi jammed on top of his harmonies on his Prophet 5 synth. Her first take is the one that we have the pleasure of enjoying.
“Patria” has all of the ingredients and more for a stand-out David August track – a slowed, yet impactful, house groove, evolving synth work, organic percussive elements, and Sissi Rada’s unique vocals – brought together under a veil of musicality and deeper meaning. Have a listen and download above. Read more about the track from David August himself below.
“Back then I was in my bedroom studio. We had noises from the street, roommates next door, but the take captured the magic and the spontaneous moment of just doing music. I didn’t want to record it again. Her lyrics are about the devastating political and financial situation in Greece and I tried – as much as I could – to reflect that with my music.
Now, one year later more people than ever try to find a new life and a new home. For me it was one more reason to put this out finally, there won’t be a better moment. “Patria” is my contribution for all the lost souls of this earth.” – David August

Whenever the latest RA Live Session comes out I drop everything to see what the latest and greatest has to offer. In a world where DJ’s reign supreme, the come up seems to be strong with those looking to innovate and create on the fly. David August has already had a big week with the release his official remix for The Acid which is rapidly racking up the play counts, and this RA Session will be one in the same. Sampling the revered Alfred Hitchcock, August finds inspiration in the author’s haunting words of wisdom as he creates a fully improvised 16 minute live piece that is bar none my favorite session to date.

The unique productions of Berlin’s David August are difficult to classify. No matter the BPM or style, he always manages to create something balanced and beautiful. Having only released a handful of remixes over the past year since his “TIMES” album release, August decided to throw us a freebie. “Her Myth” is an ambient-yet-melodic piece that probably shouldn’t be available for free. This gorgeous track is simple, elegant, groovy at times. Enjoy as the bass line and percussion elements get sprinkle in one by one, then grab the free download.

Nicotine. It’s that tiny chemical that millions crave, the stuff of multi-billion dollar industries fueled by cigarettes and nicorette packs. Many can’t get enough of the stuff, and from a chemical standpoint, it’s easy to see why. Acting mainly as a stimulant, nicotine has a boatload of effects on your nervous system, upping the release of quite a few chemicals in the body. By activating the mesolymbic pathway in the brain (what’s called the “reward system”), nicotine gives users a sense of euphoria and calmness. It also works to enhance alertness and sharpness, along with speeding up metabolism. Sounds great and everything, until you realize the strong addictive properties, difficulty with withdrawal, and potential cardiovascular problems that come with it.
Musical nicotine has all of the benefits of real nicotine without any of the bad stuff! Like people’s common reasons to smoke cigarettes, below are some songs that bring a sort of clear, calm euphoria with them, songs that you can sit outside and have a thought to, or songs you’re just notably addicted to, whether you like that you are or not. Put down your Marlboro’s, put on your headphones. Continue Reading
Earlier this week, Future Classic released a remix package for Flight Facilities new single, “With You ft. Grovesnor.” With lyrics from Hot Chip‘s drummer Grovesnor, “With You” perfectly places a story of distraught love against a lighthearted, pop electronic backdrop.Flight Facilitiescommissioned remixes from two of my favorite producers, who each add a deeper and more complex sound to the track. Danny Daze makes the track perfect for those after hours sets, while David August turns it into the perfect companion for deep contemplation on a long drive home.
