Ben Browning of the legendary Aussie collective Cut Copy has himself quite the solo career. His latest, “Make It Easy,” comes as a preview to his forthcoming LP “Turns.” Ben’s solo effort will focus more on the electronic production side of things, with influences from indie-pop to techno. The track in question is an easy-listener, enlisting the help of synthesizers, horns, strings, the whole nine to form one cohesive jam. You can grab this one from Ben Browning on iTunes below to hold you over until the “Turns.”

Coming off of a momentous 2013 including performances alongside some of his idols and an appearance on GDD’s Wide Awake Art Car at EDC Las Vegas, SURF AMBASSADOR HENDO enters the new year with a renewed vigor and refined vision for his career. In this mix, he brings us a diverse selection of new, old, and unreleased sun-soaked grooves that bring the heat. Check out the outstanding mix below, but before you jump in, here’s an important message from the man himself…
“As 2014 begins to unfold, I’ve decided to simplify a bit. I will be DJ-ing under the name Hendo come this Spring. This exclusive GDD™ Guest Mix is one of the last mixtapes I will do under the name Surf Ambassador Hendo. With a few songs in the works, some great future lineups, and a fresh twist on my mixing style, I’m really looking forward to spreading The Froth this year as I’m only just getting started…”
The Amplifetes are a 4-piece band out of Sweden that came together in 2008 with a shared love for analog instruments, Electric Light Orchestra, and 60s Psychadelia. After their debut album in 2010, the foursome from Stockholm returned to the studio for their sophomore album, Where Is The Light, which is slated for release by the end of this year. Fellow Swede Samuel Onervas has put together a fantastic, Indie Dance remix to the single, showcasing catchy vocal Ooh’s and forward percussion, reminding me a bit of some of the Cut Copy remixes we used to hear a few years back. Listen below and read on after the jump to check out the interactive video game that The Amplifetes created to accompany the single that gives one winner a chance to go to The Northern Lights in the Arctic Circle!
After a heated Grammy Sunday, we’re back into the swing of things with a brand new week ahead of us. I have news featuring coverage of the Grammys, Future Music Festival Asia, & Cut Copy’s Ben Browning with his solo project. Please read on after the jump.
Break out your skinny jeans and your dancin shoes – Friday night we’re gonna do the dirty disco. This week @ CONTROL we welcome two special DJ sets by Cut Copy and Midnight Juggernauts. Pre-Sales have already SOLD OUT, so we will have a VERY LIMITED guest list this week. Please make sure to arrive well before doors open to guarantee entry.

So we took last week off of The Dirt and we sincerely apologize for it, but what better way to come back this week than with a mouthwatering, user-submitted buttshot and a terrific 11-pack of tunes to get you ready for the weekend! As usual, we have a bit of everything in here, so either take our word for it and download everything via the zip files, or pick and choose which ones sound good to you. Happy Dirt day people.
JACKIN’ TECH HOUSE
• Riva Starr, Major Lazer – Jump (The Martin Brothers Remix) √+ [Beatport]
Out last month on the Snatch! subsidiary label, Snatch! Special, this remix of Jump by Christian and Justin blends the familiar sounds of Snatch! and DirtyBird and is deservedly the first track on the compilation release.
VOCAL INDIE NU DISCO
• Metronomy – Everything Goes My Way (Ewan Pearson Remix) √+ [Beatport]
I first heard this remix on Danny Daze‘s guest mix for Nic Fanciulli‘s Worldwide Sounds podcast. I love the original from Metronomy and Ewan Pearson sticks to the main elements while incorporating a great Nu Disco feel.
TECHNO + HOUSE
• Lazy Ants & Rob Threezy – Chi to Rome (Mike Mago Remix) √+
Set for release next Monday the 19th, the Chi to Rome EP from Lazy Ants and Rob Threezy incorporates some of my favorite genres: Acid House, Chicago House, and Techno. This remix from BMKLTSCH Records head honcho, Mike Mago, delivers a bit of a Chicago House vibe while incorporating the repetition of a solid Techno tune.
• Cut Copy – Sun God (Andrew Weatherall Remix) √+
Cut Copy received a Grammy nod for Best Dance/Electronica Album a couple weeks ago for their fantastic Zonoscope LP, and in celebration they’ve released this nearly 9-minute epic remix from the legendary Brit, Andrew Weatherall. It’s a must have.
• Traveler – Phantom (Original Mix) √+
I just posted on these guys earlier this week, but I felt like I needed to include this track in The Dirt this week because it’s been on such heavy rotation since I downloaded it on Monday. Keep a serious eye out for Traveler in 2012.
Gigamesh is heating up the Winter by bringing back the classic “Disco Inferno” with great taste and extra grooves. It’s just another gem to add to the quality Gigamesh catalog.
Uppermost displays his refined production skills with a harder hitting, Justice type sound in “Positive,” a track of off his latest release, Action.
DRUM ‘N’ BASS
This round of the Dirt calls for a tune from the always dependable Sigma. I find it necessary to have a little up-tempo energy and this easily gets the job done.
I’m sure you could relate on how good it feels to come across a great artist and my latest discovery is Glasgow’s Rustie. With a unique and distinct style, he’s definitely one to look out for, especially with support from BBC’s Annie Mac.
They’re known for their remixes, and it’s to no surprise that Adventure Club has put together a great arrangement of Metric’s “Collect Call.” Having the foundation of great vocals to work with facilitates the production process, but they certainly take it a step further.
Emancipator is one of my favorite producers to chill to and with his laidback, flowing vibe, there’s not much else I could ask for. If you don’t already “like” his Facebook, I suggest you do so as he gave this track out for free today after reaching 30,000 fans!
