The NY-based mystery man Curses has hit the ground running in 2014, spearheading the label project Safer At Night and a new mixtape series to highlight the artists on board. The second installment features DKDS, a young duo also out of the empire state boasting a recent premiere on Annie Mac for their new single “Coast To Coast.” With big tribal drums and a haunting house driven lead, DKDS embody what Safer At Night is here to stand for. Listen to their exclusive mix below and check out the new single as played on Radio 1!
If NYC duo DKDS haven’t made their way onto your radar just yet, don’t worry, but let this mix be a nice little introduction for you. Two cousins sharing a passion for House and Techno, DKDS started only in the past couple of years and the guys have seemingly just started working on originals within the past 6 months, hanging under the wing of T&B bossman Luca Venezia and his √+ project, Curses.
The guys have been announced to play Verboten‘s New Year’s Eve event at a massive warehouse location in the city, joining up with Eats Everything, Star Eyes, and a special guest to be announced closer to the event, and to give us a preview of their set, DKDS have put together the most recent installment of Verboten Transmissions, featuring over an hour of some jackin’ tunes that are putting me in a warehouse vibe for sure.
We’ll definitely be keeping an eye on these guys in 2014…
Luca has really stepped back from his Drop The Lime moniker to focus on Curses this year, and I have to say I’m happy about it. Bringing in deep, black basslines and heads down, hands up vibes, Curses shows a darker side to Luca that we just can’t get enough of. His latest work comes in the form of a remix for London-based Crystal Fighters‘ “LA Calling,” adding his Gotham Wave steez to the contrarily vocal and jovial original. √+
For this week’s Artist Collab series for The Dirt, I’m very excited to be teaming up with one of the baddest DJs on the planet, Anna Lunoe. Along with her sorcery on the decks, Anna is a phenomenal producer, she has serious remix game, her apparel line rocks, she kills it all across social media & pretty much dominates at life.
Check out Anna’s picks of some of her hottest tunes of the moment and what she has to say about them. Together we bring you a 10-pack of ultra cool, hot new jams, a handful of which you can grab for FREE!
Luca Venezia is taking some time off his Drop The Lime project to focus on what he calls “New Gotham House” under his longtime side project moniker, Curses. He’s hitting the ground running with an unbelievable new 2-track EP due out on Marble June 24th, featuring “So Good” as well as a massive collaboration with Surkin, Para One, and Canblaster titled “Deep In The Night.” Preview “So Good” below and have a listen to the √+ guest mix that Luca put together for big time Curses supporters, Skream & Benga.
Continuing our artist Dirt series I decided to team up with Curses, the mysterious Gotham house music ghost who has been haunting the underground lately. I have somehow managed to catch him live three times in past few months and each time I seem to fall in love a little more. Dark, deep and delectably smooth his mixes are quickly becoming the soundtrack to my New York nights and I can’t wait to see what he has in store for us production wise. If you missed out we featured his mix for Marble Music a few days ago and don’t forget to check out his selection of timeless tracks below… Continue Reading
Have you heard of Curses! yet? Because if not, you really really need to….As the latest project from a big underground bass name (just try and guess who…), Curses can only be described as delectably dark deep house. I’ve seen him a few times around the NYC underground and he is easily one of my new favorites for 2013. Just check out his latest mix for French music platform, Marble, below and try not to dance…
