Coleco has been on fire as of lately, and it’s a flame that will burn deep into the night. With their recent drop of their “El Verano Ep,” and the mighty success of “Ricky Smiley,” the future is theirs. Combining elements of nu-disco, funk, R&B, and making it dance floor ready is a timeless concoction for the future. Always refusing the blend in and meld new sounds make it all truly special. They’ve just dropped a recent remix they did for Young Empires, and its a spicy soulful piece. Stream it below, and click HERE for the free download. Cheers!
Fixtapes are Mixtapes geared specifically for your ride. This tape is about constant motion and positive vibes to keep your legs cranking while your heart is pumping. It’s a new series by the Sole Bicycle guys which will feature a new artist every month resulting in quite an awesome compilation. I, Tropicool, was lucky enough to kick things off with Volume One. Enjoi!

“The waves ≠ raves consists of hand-picked gems that inspire us, tickling and tempting our creative juices. Some are old, some are new, but it is what we are listening to now. They are groovey, flowing, and sun-kissed just like that perfect wave. They are uplifting and guaranteed to put a smile on your face. They sound the best with a babe in one hand, a cold brewski in the other, and the sand beneath your feet. Stay Dreamy.”

At a time when the nu-disco scene started to get a bit stale, guys like Perseus, Goldroom, Poolside & Moon Boots emerged right in the nick of time last year to give the disco/slo-mo scene a much needed jolt of freshness + creativity. During that period when people started to grow weary of the same bubbly nu-disco that countless other artists had been serving up repeatedly over the last few years, these were the guys that offered up a more emotive brand of songwriting & layered it with deep, tropical sounds & started doing things that no other disco artists had thought to do. And now that the foundation has been laid by them, artists like Le Youth and ColeCo are adding their mark on the scene.
To get into the spirit of the Summer season, ColeCo are showing off their new tropical chops with the track “Ricky Smiley” from their soon-to-be-released “El Verano” EP (complete with an EP release party this month in Toronto – check out the Facebook event HERE). Preview the Brandy-sampled track “Ricky Smiley” below and get your Summer swerve on.

The new “Aretha” EP by Moon Boots reads like a who’s who of artists who are set to have MONSTER years in 2012 (including Mr. Boots, himself). Remixers include GDD™ favorites ColeCo, Zimmer & Kid Color. All the remixes plus the original & dub come together delectably to create a groovy, smoothed-out EP full of underground disco vibes. The “Aretha” EP is out January 31st on Nervous Records.
OK, A LOT going on here. “Take Care” is a song by Drake featuring Rihanna. “Take Care” samples the Gil Scott-Heron song/Jamie XX remix “I’ll Take Care of U”. Recently, Florence and the Machine, an admirer of all parties named thus far, decided to do a cover of Drake’s “Take Care”. As expected, she nails it (see for yourself).
Not to be outdone, ColeCo (fresh off the MASSIVE success of “Can’t Stop”) have decided to bring some deep disco to the bunch with their super stunning Midnight remix of “Take Care”. Enjoy the beautiful boogie…
