With Halloween falling on a Wednesday this year, it only makes sense for festivities to begin this Friday, and who better to kick off your excessive Halloween week than the dirtybird crew! Head honcho Claude VonStroke will headline the night; accompanied by his right hand man, Justin Martin, and the youngster and LA local, Justin Jay, who has made an excellent Halloween mix that you can download for free below. If you’ve seen the mighty Claude Vonstroke do his thing lately, the peak of the energy breaks down with a VIP edit of DJ Zinc’s classic Super Sharp Shooter. That edit just happens to be made from the original gem “Hoe Hoe Hoe” by the LA based Wood Holly. This duo of young guns have broken on the scene with a thick 808 booty call – so much that it’s gained the attention and support from other Dirty Bird reps Justin Martin, Kill Frenzy, Ardalan, and Worthy. They’ve jumpstarted the soundcloud hype with (2) free remixes from Lendrick Kamar’s “Swimming Pools” and Dom Kennedy’s “My Tape Of Party.” GET EM.

Tom Flynn of Birmingham, UK will be releasing his third solo EP on San Francisco’s dirtybird imprint tomorrow exclusively on Beatport, and his reputation precedes him once again as the Be Yourself EP is a prime example of Flynn’s incredible knack for House Music production and arrangement. While the title track “Be Yourself” will tickle you in all of your favorite places, it’s the B-side “Wild Flowers” that tantalizes almost to the breaking point before reaching a “euphoric resolution” that Claude VonStroke calls “absolute killer open air material and probably [his] favorite Tom Flynn track to date.” √+ Continue Reading

HARD Summer at the LA State Historic Park in Downtown Los Angeles is right around the corner, and with 2 days, 4 stages and one of the biggest, most diverse lineups HARD has ever put together, it’s safe to say that this year’s festival may be the best HARD production (on land) to date.

Set times have just been released this morning via the HARD Summer Website, so make sure to head over there to get your nights scheduled. Some tough acts are going head to head, but with the landscape of the festival grounds providing for easier movement about the festival, I think we’ll all be able to catch a bit of everything we need to.

Have a look at my personal Top 5 Picks of each day as well as 4 installments of the Hard Summer Mixtape series after the jump! Continue Reading

Okay so I’ve been hoarding this since I was lucky enough to receive a promo after WMC, but for all that don’t already know – Daniel Pierce aka Eats Everything is back in the spotlight with his incredible follow up Jagged Elbow EP on Pets Recordings. The Bristol native exploded onto the record label last year with the massively supported ‘Entrance Song,’ earning him a BBC Radio 1 Essential mix and a capture into the DirtyBird family by label chief Claude VonStroke. The big man since then has been busy at work with tour dates across the world and stunning remixes setting him a cut above any other on their respectable releases (not to mention his production as one part of the duo Waif & Strays).

Officially released on Monday, the Jagged Elbow EP first features a-side ‘Jagged Edge’ – a darker toned blend of weighty bassline with haunting vocals, pinched guitar riffs and wet brassy chords . The b-side ‘This Elbow’ (originally titled ‘Food’ during WMC haha) is a more low end driven bouncy bass tune with uptempo hat swings and bobbing chord stabs to the spirit of soulful house music.

The first original EP of 2012 on the dirtybird imprint comes from the new side project from London’s Dave Spoon — under the devious moniker of Shadow Child. The self-titled EP consists of two original tracks, ‘String Thing’ and ‘Rustic Chip,’ which blend genre lines between Solid Groove and Drum N Bass and have both already received support and air time from some of dirtybird‘s finest, Claude VonStoke and Eats Everything. To celebrate yesterday’s release, Shadow Child put together a fantastic mix including a number of TUNES from dirtybird, Pets, and Night Slugs, as well as a handful of unreleased jams that I can’t wait to get my hands on. Stream the EP before you buy it on Beatport and download the mix after the jump. Continue Reading
