The recent collab w/ London young guns Disciples proved to be a tally in the cool column for Calvin Harris, but the nail went in the coffin when Chris Lake delivered his piping energetic flip on the single – giving the deeper driven original a jacking appeal fit for the summer season. It just dropped today on Beatport and iTunes, listen below and scoop it up in time for the weekend festivities!

To get us hyped for their big show this Saturday night @ Exchange LA, I caught up with house music lords Chris Lake and Amtrac for another cheeky edition of our Quick-hitter interview series. The two have never met, but we found plenty to be sized up in their comparisons of Los Angeles and preparation for the gig. Let’s get to it!

AMTRAC….

1.) Whats your favorite track (original or remix) by Chris Lake?
Chris Lake – Chest (Original Mix)
Deadmau5 – Faxing Berlin (Chris Lake Edit)

2.) First memory of coming to LA?
I remember leaving my phone in a car when I went to a show in Hollywood. I ended up having to find my way to some party on Mulholland to retrieve it. Mulholland Drive is such a tight movie, so I didn’t mind the journey so much.

3.) You’re driving a convertible around LA, what song is playing?
CAN – Vitamin C

4.) Go-to spot to eat in LA?
The King of Grill in Hollywood / the fire walk up tacos

5.) What non-music celebrity would you go b2b with and why?
Shia LaBeouf, because I’m sure his tracks would “Do It”

6.) 1 thing you want Chris Lake to know before the show July 11 @ Exchange?
I probably won’t play any AC/DC

CHRIS LAKE….

1.) If you weren’t making music / DJing what would your job be?
I’d probably be designing tall buildings like skyscrapers and bridges, things like that. It always fascinated me as a kid.

2.) First memory of coming to LA?
I played Monday Night Social 8 years ago so that would have been my first trip here. There was a heat wave and I thought I was going to die in that temperature. It did take me a few trips to get used to it here though, but now I love it and I’ve been living here for nearly 4 years.

3.) You’re driving a convertible around LA, what song is playing?
Anything by the beach boys

4.) Go-to spot to eat in LA
M cafe on Melrose

5.) What non-music celebrity would you go b2b with and why?
Idris Elba coaches a bad ass and he can also DJ (I know I kinda cheated)

6.) First thing that comes to mind when you think of the word ‘AMTRAC’?
Journeys with a view to San Diego (on a train, obviously)

It seems that Chris Lake just can’t be stopped this year, whether cooking up huge originals or churning out remixes like it’s his…. oh wait, it IS his job! He’s recently championed remixes for Jess Glynne, Fono, and a chart topping anthem to ‘California’ by SNBRN. The streak hasn’t settled yet, as his next target is a massive house overhaul to the radio hit ‘Get Stupid’ by Aston Merrygold. Chris Lake had a vision far apart from the original, and he successfully delivered another beast entirely. The beckoning ‘Get Stupid’ vocal goes on a wild ride through thick basslines, howling synth whips, and a roller coaster of percussion – making this one another anthem set for every club floor to the festival circuit.

Early support is already across the board, with plays from the likes of DJ Snake, Chocolate Puma, Mercer, Pete Tong, Danny Howard, Fedde Le Grand, Yolanda Be Cool, Moguai, Roska, Go Freek, Example, and more. Listen to the full track below and look out for its release on July 24!

From the radio waves to the festival stages, Fono‘s house anthem “Real Joy” has been rinsed far and wide this year. The single finally got it’s highly anticipated remix package, flexing a club edit from Duke Dumont, a junglist loving take from TC, and our favorite – a chunky jackin flip from house mogul Chris Lake and mysterious collaborator Rrotik. Lake & Rrotik take the cake on this one, giving the original a fat low end and dicing the vocal into its own instrument. Early support for their remix already comes from Gorgon City, Treasure Fingers, Pete Tong, Annie Mac, Moguai, Danny Howard, EDX, Max Vangeli, Paul Oakenfold, and Fono himself. The UK born collaboration of Chris Lake & Chris Lorenzo struck us right in the feels at the end of last year with their Wicked Games cover, and now take things into the club with their new original “Piano Hand”. Premiered by Annie Mac on her BBC Radio 1 Show, “Piano Hand” features a slick bass line groove, quirky cutup vocal samples, and a very speed garage-influenced sound very characteristic of Chris Lorenzo. Listen below, and pick it up today on Beatport!

“It’s a four minute twenty five second rippling beat opus that soars and whooshes but holds down the tempo, using the keys and the Armand Van Heldenesque beat builds and rave snares to push it into the strobelights.” – DMC World Magazine

There is no question that UK diva Jess Glynne has one of the best voices in dance music right now – the powerful vocalist behind Clean Bandit has championed the charts with hits “Rather Be”, “My Love” w/ Route 94, and her own solo single “Right Here”. Her new single “Hold My Hand” is out March 23, and the UK house mogul Chris Lake is on the remix duty, evolving the melodic strength of the original into a huge club record. Listen to the full stream below, and be on the lookout for its release towards the end of the month!

On one rainy day in Birmingham, Chris Lake (Rising/Mau5trap) and Chris Lorenzo (dirtybird/food music) met in the studio and produced this edit of Chris Isaak’s classic jam Wicked Games. Once they got a hold of the acapella, they knew they had to build a track around it. Everything was recorded using live instruments and they used no samples except the acapella of course. The result is this “Lush” “vacant but absorbent” edit that is something even your mother could dance too. Grab it below for FREE DL!
